From 1992-1997, as part of its Fox Kids programming block, Fox broadcast the series known as X-Men: The Animated Series. This series would last for five seasons of 78 episodes. The show was developed by Graz Entertainment (hired by Saban Entertainment) and animated by South Korean animation studio AKOM. This would be a beloved series, praised for its adapting the original comics.
Since 2019, Disney had expressed an interest in a revival of the series for its streaming service, Disney+. In November 2021, it was announced a revival/continuation was in the works: X-Men '97. The series will be developed by Marvel Animation. Several voice actors will be reprising their roles from the original series, like Cal Dodd as Wolverine, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, and George Buza as Beast. Some of the original actors will be returning in new roles, like Catherine Disher (the original Jean Grey) as Dr. Valerie Cooper. The voice cast will get some new additions, like Ray Chase. He'll be taking over for the late Norm Spencer as Cyclops, and Holly Chou as Jubilee. Let's look at the trailer!
Was that from an actual commercial?
Using footage from the final episode "Graduation Day" makes a lot of sense. Gives an idea that this show is truly a continuation of here, and not a reboot. Very smart!
Looks like the X-Men really...did not do a great job at that whole "promoting human-mutant peace thing". Not surprised, really. I blame Mendoza.
Hey, the Daily Bugle! I hope this leads to a revival of the Spider-Man series, as it is set in the same universe. I can also imagine that Spider-Man is angrily shaking his fist at the Bugle for not including the hyphen. And a nod to the Hellfire Galas from recent X-Men books. It has been thirty years, there's a lot more new material from the show to draw from. I recognize Banshee, Dust, Maggott, Nature Girl, and I think Loa. God, I hope they don't make Moira a mutant. Screw you, Jonathan Hickman.
So, I'm guessing that Lilandra wasn't able to help Xavier.
I wonder what that gold pyramid-like building is. Maybe a refurbished Xavier Institute?
Yeah, you can tell that Cal Dodd's Wolverine voice isn't quite what it used to be. To be fair, the man is nearly 70 years old, so...yeah. It's something you have to expect.
The animation does seem a bit stiff to me, but then again, so did the original series, so it fits.
Awwww, we're gonna get a baby Cable! Or maybe Rachel.
It's neat seeing Bishop being on the team.
Morph: "Awwwww, why can't we meet more nice giant robots? Like the Iron Giant? Or that Red Ronin guy? He was cool!"
...and then Logan exploded.
"And do your best cool pose! We gotta look awesome here, people!"
You know when he heard that, a part of Scott's brain screamed "CHARLES, YOU MOTHER_FU!"
Well, color me excited! I can't wait to watch this series! I loved the original X-Men cartoon as a kid, and seeing this trailer made me smile. This is going to be fun!
