World Pasta Day

 Today is World Pasta Day!

This day is for celebrating, well, pasta! What is pasta? Well, pasta is a food made from dough that is mixed with water or eggs. The mixed dough is then formed into shapes, and then baked or boiled. Pasta is most associated with Italy. Which makes sense, as pasta is a staple food of the country.

The word 'pasta' comes from Latinized Greek, from a word meaning 'barley porridge'. The first concrete evidence of pasta in Italy is from the 13th/14th centuries. There is a legend that Marco Polo introduced noodles to Italy from China, but that was created by food industries to promote pasta in the United States. It's more likely that it came to Europe thanks to all the trading in the Mediterranean during the Middle Ages. Pasta would be taken on long ship voyages because it lasted a long time and was easy to store.

By the 19th century, advances in technology allowed pasta to be mass produced easily, and it would explode in popularity all over the world.

So enjoy some delicious pasta today! Thanks for reading this blog entry! See you next time!
