World Otter Day

Today is World Otter Day!

What is World Otter Day, you may ask yourself? Well, World Otter Day is celebrated on the last Wednesday of May. Its purpose is to raise awareness about the importance of otters.

Otters can be found almost all over the world, living in freshwater lakes and rivers. There are 13 known species of otters. They are semiaquatic animals that have webbed feet, dense fur, and flat tails to help them move around in the water. Most of the species of otters live in freshwater habitats, where they feed mainly on fish and frogs, but some will also eat birds.

Otters are also known to be thought of as playful animals, as they are often seen doing activities like playing with small rocks and waking waterslides.

Because of their wide ranges, many cultures have folklore and mythology about otters. For example, in Norse myth, the dwarf Otr is said to often take the form of an otter. Some Native American cultures view otters as totem animals. In Japanese myth, otters are shapeshifting tricksters like the kitsune. There's also myths of otters taking the form of women to kill and eat men. Yeah, Japanese myth is some hardcore stuff, man.

Otters are neat little creatures, so show love to one today. Thanks for reading this blog entry! See you next time!
