Metroid Prime Remastered Launch Trailer, My Thoughts

In 2002, Nintendo released the Retro Studios-developed game Metroid Prime. The fifth game in the mainline Metroid series, it was the first game in the series to use a first-person perspective and three-dimensional graphics. Set between the NES game Metroid and the Game Boy game Metroid II: Return of Samus, it tells the tale of Samus Aran as she battles the horrors created by the experiments of space pirates using a substance called Phazon on Tallon IV, a planet that has a connection to a old race she knows well: The Chozo.

The game would be a critical and financial success, selling nearly 3 million copies for the Nintendo GameCube. It would be hailed as one of the best video games of all time and is regarded as a must-have for the GameCube library. Let's look at the trailer!

I sure hope the controls are customizable.

I heard there was a bad glitch in this game

"YOU WOKE ME UP, SAMUS! TODAY YOU DIE!"

Metroid Dread Announcement Trailer, My Thoughts

When Metroid Fusion was published for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, it seemed to be the final 2D game franchise...until now. At the Nintendo Direct for E3 2021, It was announced that a new Metroid game was in the works from Spanish game developer MercurySteam (the same company behind Samus Returns) and Nintendo EPD: Metroid Dread. It's the first 2D Metroid game in nearly 20 years. Let's look at the trailer!

Well, look at you in your fancy new suit, Samus.

It's a shame this isn't actual game footage. This first-person view makes me want to play Metroid Prime again. That was a fun game.

So, instead of Metroids, Samus is fighting robots. I must admit, I can imagine for her, that's a nice change.

"Go away, you stupid robot! I don't have any microchips for you!"

Ooh, that likely would hurt!

Hey, the melee counters from Samus Returns! Nice to see Sammy's still got that trick!

Huh, looks like Samus may have found a friend in this game.

I am curious about Samus's new suit. Is it one she got especially for fighting the robots?

She can turn invisible! That's awesome!

So, Samus can climb on the blue walls. Does that mean she can't climb walls in Morph Ball form like she could in Samus Returns anymore?

So, the main villain is HAL 9000? "I'm sorry, Samus. I can't do that..."

Well, this looks like it will be a fun game! I loved Samus Returns, and it's really cool we're seeing the team behind that making a new Metroid game. The only new mechanics I saw here were the invisibility and the wall-climbing. The first one is cool, and I like that we're seeing Samus fight something besides Metroids for once. Feels refreshing. I can't wait for this game!

Metroid: Samus Returns Trailer, My Thoughts

E3 2017 has been hitting us with a LOT of game trailers for future releases. Nintendo has not disappointed, revealing various games for their current platforms: the handheld 3DS, and the Console/handheld hybrid Switch. However, one trailer for a future release has got fans into a tizzy.

Yes, that's right, the Metroid series is roaring back with a bang! Not only are we getting this, we're also getting a new Metroid Prime game, number four! Alright! I have played the original Metroid Prime, and really enjoyed it, one of the best games on the GameCube.

Now, from what I understand, this game is essentially a remake/reimagining of the 1991 Game Boy game Metroid II: Return of Samus, like Metroid: Zero Mission for the Game Boy Advance was a remake of the original Metroid for the NES. That's pretty neat. I never played the original Game Boy version, so it's great that it's been given a shiny remake, so those like me who missed out can give this shiny new version a try.

The game really looks amazing. It's so bright and colorful. It shows a variety of palettes, and we get to see Samus use what might be a variety of weapons. And she's also packing a melee attack! That's awesome! I've never seen her use one of those in any of the Metroid games I've played. Although to be fair, I've only played Zero Mission, Super Metroid, and Metroid Prime. And I do keep meaning to pick up Federation Force...

According to this, Samus can fire in any angle, unlike the original. That's nice. Take advantage of the 3DS having a Control Stick. Also, the music is being composed by two of the same people who composed music for Super Metroid. That's a nice callback to Metroid's past.

This game looks like it will be awesome! I can't wait to grab it when September comes!
