Echo Trailer, My Thoughts

The Mighty Marvel Cinematic Universe marches on! It's said that no good deed goes unpunished. However, as the tagline of the newest MCU miniseries says, no bad deed goes unpunished, either.

In the Disney+ miniseries Hawkeye, the character of Maya Lopez, aka Echo. A deaf Native American woman (Cheyenne in the comics, Choctaw in the MCU), Lopez was a martial artist who was the leader of the Tracksuit Mafia. She sought revenge on Clint Barton as she believed he was responsible for the death of her father: Willie "Crazy Horse" Lincoln, who was the previous head of the Mafia. It was then discovered that her adopted uncle, one Wilson Fisk (played by Vincent D'Onofrio, reprising the role from Hawkeye and the Netflix Daredevil series) was the true killer.

Echo was portrayed by Alaqua Cox. Like Echo herself, Cox is a deaf Native American (of the Mohican and Menominee Nations). The role was her debut and her breakthrough.

Let's look at the trailer!

Awww, small Maya is adorable.

You okay, Wilson? Got a bit of a rasp there. Need something to soothe that throat? Like some ice cream or something?

This is why more people need to learn ASL.

Dang, Wilson! You could have just helped her order some ice cream!

Although, I will admit, it does fit Fisk's character. He would lose it that hard over a minor slight. That ice cream guy is going to be in a lot of pain for a very long time.

Looks like we'll learn how she got that artificial leg. It's clear she had it a very long time, as her child self is shown having one as well.

This trailer seems to indicate that this show will explore more of Maya's Native American ancestry. I think that's pretty cool.

KABOOM!

Daredevil cameo!

Yeah, Maya's attempt to be a chiroprator...did not end well.

Well, I admit, I am excited for this trailer. I have heard that they are making a bit of a change to her abilities. You see, in the comics, Echo has what are called "photographic reflexes". For example, if she sees someone play a song on a piano, then she can play that exact same song on a piano. I have heard that in the series Honestly, I get why. Not necessarily that her comic ability is "lame", per se, but it may make her come off more as a ripoff of Taskmaster, who also has that gimmick.
