National Pistachio Day

 Happy Pistachio Day!

The purpose of this day is to raise awareness of the health benefits of eating Pistachios. Pistachios are a good source of dietary fiber, and certain vitamins like B6, and moderately good source of vitamins E and K.

Pistachio nuts are the seeds of the pistachio tree. They're part of the cashew family. And even though they are called "nuts", they are not actually nuts. At least, in the botanical sense. The pistachio tree grows in deserts, and they don't mind saline soil (soil with lots of salt in it). They naturally grow in Iran and Central Asia. As a result, Iran produces a lot of pistachio nuts. For production, they are grown in orchards. Pistachio trees can live up to 300 years. Yeah, they can witness entire generations of families be born and die. Archeologists have discovered evidence that pistachios have been consumed as far back as 6750 BCE. Europe was introduced to the pistachio tree thanks to the Romans. They grew them in Southern Europe and Northern Africa. It's why Italy is also a minor producer of pistachios.

While the health benefits of eating pistachios have been debated, one study did suggest that regular consumption can help lower blood pressure in people without diabetes.

So yeah, Pistachios are quite fascinating. Enjoy one today! Thanks for reading this blog entry! If you liked i, show it off! Take care of yourselves and each other! See you next time!
