TMNT: Mutants Unleashed Launch Trailer, My Thoughts

If there is one other medium that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has made their name in besides animation, it's video games. The high-kicking reptiles have graced arcades and home consoles since the 1980s, from the era of the NES to today. Heck, they even got a pinball table. And many of their games have naturally been in the fighting/beat 'em up genres. Makes sense, since marital arts is a regular thing in various incarnations.

The latest TMNT game, Mutants Unleashed, is set in the universe of the movie Mutant Mayhem. I've watched it on Amazon Prime, and it was really good. 👍 Developed by Aheartfulofgames and published by British company Outright Games, this game is set after the events of that movie, with our heroes finding themselves having to deal with a new wave of mutants rampaging in the city. Let's look at the trailer!

Yeah, a glowing pink tunnel is nothing good.

"Leatherhead gonna dine on turtle soup!" Mmm, soup...

Man, Bebop's acting like they messed with his boombox.

That mantis girl is going to get a LOT of fanart.

Bebop also found that he lost his favorite Beanie Baby.

Considering everything lately, I think there's something in the air making us all crazy.

That one scene with Leo makes me worry something bad will happen to someone they care about.

I love their helmets look like those beer can helmets. You know the ones.

Yeah, those ones.

Were those mutant bees?

Ooh, skin packs. Neat. I'd love to play with the 1987 cartoon skins. I think it would have been cool for them to have skins based on the 2003 cartoon. I loved that one.

Well, this game looks like it will be a lot of fun to play. I enjoy a good beat 'em up on occasion, and this seems like a great way to kill some time and relax a bit. Thanks for reading this blog entry! If you liked it, show it off! Take care of yourselves and each other! See you next time!

Minecraft TMNT DLC Launch Trailer, My Thoughts

Let’s look at the trailer!

This cover of the 80s theme isn't half-bad.

You know, there's just...something about the 80s/90s aesthetic of the original cartoon that fits Minecraft very well.

Wait, is that Tempestra?! I remember that episode!

Actually, it is rather appropriate that she be here. She was a villainess from a video game after all.

TMNT: Mutant Mayhem Teaser, My Thoughts

Over the decades of the franchise's existence, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have made their way through many kinds of media. They started from comics, but arguably truly reached fame thanks to animation. There have been several animated series over the years, the original 1987-1996 animated series arguably seen as the iconic portrayal of the Heroes in the Half-Shell. They've also had animated adventures on the big screen, the first being the 2007 film TMNT. And they're now going to return to the silver screen with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, a reboot of the film series. Let's look at the teaser!

Heh. Eternal teenager.

Ahhh, a nice peaceful night in New York City. Nothing bad is totally going to happen tonight.

I do like the idea of the Ninja Turtles being voiced by actual teenagers. Helps with the feeling of authenticity.

This is neat, seeing the Ninja Turtles goof around and acting like, well...kids. Also, I like the little touches for the characters. Raph having a missing tooth fitting his nature as the hot-headed brawler, Donnie having the glasses, and Mikey having the...braces?

Who put those in for him? Did Donnie do that?

"He's gonna die." Don't jinx it, Donnie!

"We may have killed somebody, but oh well, probably deserved it. I'm hankering for pepperoni!" Yep, that's Raph.

Heh. Shreks.

OH, THAT'LL HURT.

I was laughing so hard at this part in the trailer.

I think this April looks just fine. Reminds me of a more chill version of Rise of the TMNT April.

Well, they're not wrong. "Ooze" does roll off the tongue better. I mean, ooze. Oooze. Ooooooooooze.

Alright, alright! I liked the style of the trailer's animation. It makes me think of claymation. It's clear they're drawing from Spider-Verse's style. The city looks gritty yet has a colorful vibe to it that I like. This looks like a fun movie, and it's got one heck of a cast. I can't wait to watch it! Thanks for reading this blog entry! Take care of yourselves and each other! Stay safe, stay healthy, stay home, wash your hands often, wear a mask, and get your vaccine/booster! See you next time!

Rise of the TMNT: The Movie Trailer, My Thoughts

Like many franchises that have lasted decades, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has had many different takes on it. The 2018 animated series Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had garnered quite a bit of controversy from fans due to certain changes, like making Raphael the leader (a role traditionally given to Leonardo), and their changes in their iconic weaponry. Despite that, the series was acclaimed, winning three Annie Awards, a Kid's Choice Award, and a Daytime Emmy. In 2019, it was announced that a film based on the series was in production for Netflix. Let's look at the trailer!

Don't you hate it when you commit a crime, and this quartet of ninjas messes it up for you?

I think the magic stuff this version of the TMNT can do is really cool. I hope more incarnations use it.

Eastlaird University. Heh. I get it. I see what they did there.

I love this April.

...yeah, what're you bunch laughing about? Considering that you guys are mutant ninja turtles, who have an anthropomorphic rat for a sensei/father, fought mutated creatures and monsters, and can do cool ninja magic tricks. And a man coming here from the future to warn you of a coming disaster is too ridiculous?! In their position, my mind would be quite a lot more open to Casey's story.

Yeah, this series has a version of Casey that's a female foot recruit. This is clearly that Casey's descendant. I also noticed his mask has the same red markings Leonardo has on his face. I think that's a nice subtle way to hint that Future Casey sees Leonardo's elder self as a mentor/father figure.

Ah, I see Casey here is in the John Connor role. Only instead of Terminators, he's trying to prevent an alien invasion.

Future Michelangelo is nothing to mess with.

Yeah, the Krang!

WHAT DID I JUST SAY ABOUT YOU SHOULD BE MORE OPEN-MINDED, MIKEY?!

...hope you got a plan B, Casey.

Oh man, that's some real body-horror stuff right there!

Nope, no easy way out this time, Turtles!

Those action shots are sweet.

Heh heh, that was funny. And that would make a sweet poster.

Yeah, he totally did.

I admit, this looks quite fun. I've been watching Rise of the TMNT on Netflix, and I've been enjoying it, so I can't wait to see this movie! It looks like it will be a ton of fun!

TMNT: Shredder's Revenge Reveal Trailer, My Thoughts

If you grew up in the late 80s and 90s like I did, you may be familiar with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In the early 90s, Turtle-Mania was a thing. Their 1987 cartoon series and video games became rather iconic. And now, this classic era of the Heroes in a Half-Shell is being revisited in a brand-new beat-em-up game: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge!  Let's look at the trailer!

Heh, homaging the original 80s series intro. Nice.

I love that theme. This cover isn't bad at all. The rhythm of the singing does feel a bit "off" at moments, though.

I like the animation here. It feels like a modernized version of the 80s show. Thumbs up!

I wonder if Splinter and April will be playable. Maybe as hidden unlockables? I do like the idea of 80s-era April O'Neil kicking butt.

Hey, a Triceraton! I don't remember them in the 80s series, but they are from the original TMNT comics, and have appeared in other series. Nice to see this version is giving a nod to the original comic material.

Surf's up, dude!

Yeah, you guys are going to need some heavier weaponry to take own that big ol' Technodrome.

And we get to see some gameplay! I love the sprite art they're using here. And I also like that each Turtle has a unique running animation. It helps give them a bit more personality.

You know Bebop, if you don't like a TV show, you can just watch something else. No need to wreck the studio!

If The Office was about a bunch of Foot Clan robots, I would totally watch it.

The gameplay reminds me of Turtles in Time. I played the remake of it for my X-Box 360. I enjoyed it.

Oh man, I've heard of getting in your face, but that Foot-bot took it to a new level!

I want this game! I want this game! I want this game in my hands! I want to play this right now! Give me this game! I hope it comes to the Nintendo Switch! As you can tell, I am hyped for this. I love everything about this trailer, and I am so excited for this game! It looks like it will be tons of fun! I hope it contains lots of nods to previous TMNT games.

Thanks for reading this blog entry! If you liked it, show it off! Take care of yourselves, and each other! Stay safe, stay healthy, stay home, wash your hands often, and wear a mask! See you next time!

TMNT/Ghostbusters #1 (October 2014)

In 1984, two icons of pop culture debuted. Theaters showed the a little movie about a quartet of blue-collar paranormal investigators/eliminators. Meanwhile, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird created a little comic book about four anthropomorphic turtles trained in martial arts. The Ghostbusters and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had surprisingly quite a bit in common. Both groups operated in New York City, both groups had successful long-running cartoons, and they have both have had adventures with various media over the years, including comic books.

Also, both groups have had their fair share of crossovers over the years, particularly when IDW got the comic rights for them. The Ghostbusters were involved in the first Infestation crossover, battling zombies alongside the original Star Trek crew, the Transformers, and GI Joe. The Turtles would be involved in the second crossover, alongside an alternate version of the Transformers, Dungeons & Dragons, GI Joe, and 30 Days of Night.

It wouldn't be until 2014 that these two groups would finally get to join forces for the first times. So, how did their first meeting go? Let's find out in TMNT/Ghostbusters #1!

The cover is a Dan Schoening piece, and it's pretty good. It's a bit basic, but it's good. I'd argue just seeing the Turtles and the Ghostbusters together is cool enough. What is interesting is how each Turtle and Ghostbuster is paired on the cover. Donatello and Egon make sense, as they're pretty much the brains of their groups. Leonardo and Winston are the serious fighters. Michelangelo and Ray are arguably the most kid-like. And then there's Raphael and Peter. Yeah, I don't see Peter as much of a hothead, but he and Raph do share a knack for cracking sarcastic jokes.

The story begins with...a story. Long ago, powerful beings called immortals ruled the Earth...until they just up and vanished. Literally just decided to go disappear one day. These missing beings would go on to inspire many varied myths and legends, from the kitsune in Japan, to the Pied Piper of Hamlin in Europe. It seemed these immortals would never return. Yeah, never say never, folks.

We next look in on Japan during the Muromachi period. We look in on what appears to be a young woman trying to summon something. She senses someone nearby and demands he show himself. The woman is revealed to be a kitsune, the mischievous fox spirit of Japanese mythology. The man is her brother. He sensed the great power she was summoning, and he wanted to see if she was breaking some kind of agreement the two had made. She scoffs, as the man is so uptight about the rules. Someone then emerges from the portal.

Yup, it appears the Turtles' old sparring buddy Krang is up to something. The man, Chi-You, is infuriated. He believes Krang is a demon...and that the kitsune broke the agreement. You see, the two immortals had agreed to only use mortals as pawns in their games, not demons. He tries to punch her out, but she's able to dodge, and then judo throw him into the portal.

Krang assures the kitsune that thanks to the portal's safeguards, Chi-You won't be bothering her ever again. He gives her a device, asking her if the land he needs was cleared of humans. She had that taken care of. Everything's going to plan. We then next go across the Pacific Ocean, traveling a few hundred years into the future. In particular, we're going to modern day New York City, where the Heroes in a Half-Shell are looking over a portal device of their own.

The Turtles are joined by their longtime allies April O'Neil and Casey Jones. Also with them is Harold Lillja, a scientific colleague of Donatello's. April, Donnie, and Harold have been working on this transporter unit based on schematics from the Fugitoid robot. They think they got the bugs worked out, so they test it. How? By tossing an apple into the device...which ends up conking Casey on the back of the head.

It's nice little bit of humor. The Turtles want to use this thing for quick transportation. Like, to their underground lair to visit Splinter, perhaps? So, the Turtles, Casey, and April enter the portal. Unfortunately, Lillja is busy battling a fly. He manages to swat the fly, but ends up hitting the wrong switch.

Yeah, that's an oopsie right there. We then travel to New York City...an alternate New York City. Here, another heroic quartet are at work.

Yup, the Ghostbusters are hard at work busting ghosts. Because bustin' makes them feel good. The paranormal investigators/eliminators are after a rather nasty ghost: An ugly three-eyed purple thing. The 'Busters manage to catch the ghost, but Ray Stantz is a bit worried. A Class-Five ghost should not have been this difficult to capture. The only way that's possible if some sort of dimensional breach had happened.

Peter's not worried. After all, Ray and Egon built a gadget to detect such dimensional breaches, so it would be alerting them of something. And speak of the devil, they get a call from Janine Melnitz at the firehouse.

In case you're wondering, the Goth girl with Janine there is Kylie Grffin. As in, one of the four "next-generation" Ghostbusters in the Extreme Ghostbusters animated series. I liked that show. Kylie reports that there's a potential Class-Seven on the Eastside. The Ghostbusters naturally go check it out. Meanwhile, the Ninja Turtles arrive in a church on the Ghostbusters' world...in the middle of a wedding.

Chi-You then appears, but he's confused. He can't sense Kitsune or any other of his Immortal brethren. He also has found himself changed, like the travel through dimensions and the centuries in limbo has made him more powerful. The Turtles engage the Immortal, but his newfound ghostly nature makes their attacks ineffective. Chi-You thinks the Turtles are demons sent by Kitsune to recapture him. He's not going to let that happen again. Chi-You tries to blast the Turtles. They dodge it, but Casey gets hit...and he ends up not looking very well.

He needs some face cream. Chi-You has taken control of Casey Jones. And there's another benefit for the ghostly Immortal: He has access to Casey's mind, which allows him to learn about the Turtles...as well as learn how to speak English. And he's not the only one. The wedding guests have all fallen under Chi-You's control. The Immortal knows that The Turtles will try to stop him conquering the world, so he'll have his mortal minions tear them apart. After all, the Turtles will try to avoid harming innocent people.

Luckily for the heroes, a wall gets blown open, and we finally get to see the Ghostbusters and the TMNT meet up.

This comic is awesome. It really is. It's great seeing two icons of the 80s meet up like this. The usage of alternate dimensions is fitting as such a thing is native to both franchises' mythos. We do get a nice little glance of each of the heroes' basic personalities, which is neat. The comic does hint at some previous events in the comic, but as someone who hasn't read it, I did not feel lost. I liked the mention of Gozer. That was fun.

The book was drawn by three artists, but I saw no real indication of that. The art has a bizarrely cartoony vibe to me...which is kind of appropriate as both franchises have benefitted from animation. The only thing I find a bit "off" is the faces. The artists almost makes some of the human characters look like ducks.

If you want to read this for yourself, I recommend tracking down the 2015 trade paperback Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters. It's great mini, I highly recommend it. Thanks for reading this blog entry! If you liked it, show it off! Take care of yourselves and each other. Stay safe, stay healthy, wash your hands often, stay home, and wear a mask! Batman vs. TMNT trailer, My Thoughts

In 2015-2016, DC Comics and IDW Publishing collaborated and released a six-issue miniseries called Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It's exactly what it says on the tin: The Dark Knight meeting the Heroes in the Half-Shell. The mini-series was written by James Tynion IV and drawn by Freddie Williams II, and had variant covers drawn by TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman. In 2017-2018, a sequel miniseries was released, and it's been announced that a third miniseries in the works.

The idea of the TMNT meeting DC heroes was nothing strange. The mutant ninjas appeared as playable characters in Injustice 2,  Also, the crossover got a spinoff in the form of Batman/TMNT Adventures, which had the Batman of the DC Animated Universe meeting the Ninja Turtles of the 2012 animated series.

Well, Batman and the Turtles will be meeting again in another medium: animation! Yup, Nickelodeon and WB Animation are coming together to have the Dark Knight and Heroes in the Half-Shell team up again. At this point, Bruce Wayne should have Alfred make a regular place at the Batcave for the Turtles to hang out in. Let's take a look at this trailer!

I do like the designs of the Foot Clan from a realism perspective, but I do kind of wish they paid homage to the 1987 or 2003 versions a little.

Heh heh, glow in the dark headbands.

Yeah, Batman tends to get very insecure when other heroes show up in Gotham. Troy Baker seems to be going for a Kevin Conroy vibe with the voice there.

Penguin was not expecting a cool, but crude giant turtle.

I'll give the Bat credit. He may be insecure, but he can make an entrance.

Shredder looks neat. And I can't help but chuckle at Fly!Baxter Stockman's design. In the good way.

Ninja vanish!

Oh hi, Ra's Al Ghul! Looks like we got your standard villainous alliance here. I hope we get to have Bebop and Rocksteady interact with Talia and Nyssa Raatko. That would be hilarious!

Oh yes, give the Joker mutagen. What could possibly go wrong?!

See, Donatello agrees with me!

In case you're wondering, that Robin appears to be Damian Wayne. He's Bruce's biological son. It's fitting that he's the Robin they use here as his mother is Talia Al Ghul...which makes his grandfather Ra's Al Ghul. Yeah. And you thought your family was screwed up.

Let's give mutagen to ALL the Batman villains! Great idea! I think there's a missed opportunity here by not including the Ratcatcher. You have his mutated mode pay homage to the Rat King. I'm guessing Harley will mutate into a hyena woman, Mr. Freeze will become a polar bear man, Scarecrow will become the Scarebeast (He was mutated into a monster for a while in the comics), and Poison Ivy's mutated form will pay homage to Swamp Thing.

Batman thought too fast, alright.

They're here to help, Bats. Stop being so insecure. This is why the Green Lanterns make fun of you all the time.

Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!

Well, I've got to admit, I am pretty excited for this! The idea of the Dark Knight teaming up with the Ninja Turtles is a pretty darn cool one. I grew up watching Batman: The Animated Series and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so you bet I'll be giving this a look! Man, I've really got to pick up those comic miniseries...

Injustice 2 Fighter Pack 3 Trailer, My Thoughts

Injustice 2 has announced a new Fighter Pack DLC, it's third and final one! And this one is a doozy.

The trailer begins with someone knocking out Raiden and Black Manta, who I believe came from the last DLC pack. Raiden knocks over a barrel that contains what looks like oil. And it's heading for a lit cigarette. Who lit that cigarette? I doubt it was Raiden. Raiden doesn't seem like the smoker type to me. Nor Manta. I'd blame Hellboy, but I think he's more of a cigar type.

We next see a woman with a moon-shaped pendant walk near a building. It blows up. I have to admit, I had a bit of trouble recognizing who it was.

The Atom escpaes the explosion by leaping on the pieces of the building as they get blown away. That's awesome. The woman's eyes glow green and darkness shrouds her. It's the Enchantress. I have to say, I like her design here. A lot better than the Suicide Squad movie's take on it. At least here, she's wearing freakin' green.

One thing, though. I don't think that's how her powers work. You see, in the comics, June Moone can use magical power, but if she overloads with it, she gets drunk on it and goes evil. It's one of the reasons she was called the "Switcheroo-Witcheroo" back in the day.

Anyway, the Enchantress tries to blow Atom's mind...quite literally. Atom is able to use his shrinking powers to dodge the blasts, and he tries to wallop her. However, the Switcheroo-Witcheroo is able to block him with a blast that knocks them back. The two charge at each other, but...

TING!

Is...that a sai? Yes, it's a sai! A hat-and-trenchcoat-wearing figure approaches the two and says that fight looks like fun. He throws off his hat and coat and reveals...

IT'S RAPHAEL! AND HE'S GOT THE OTHER NINJA TURTLES WITH HIM! THIS IS AWESOME! Seriously, this is actually rather cool! I love their look in this game, too. Reminds me of the first Ninja Turtles movie. Mikey remarks that he wants dibs on the magic lady, and Leonardo reminds him they fight as a team. I have heard the TMNT will literally fight as a team in the game. I wonder what that means? Does that mean you can start with a particular Turtle, but you can switch out mid-fight? I think that's what it may mean. I'm hoping that each Turtle has their own fighting style, to reflect their personalities. I also would have had liked Donatello to get a line in this trailer. He's the only Turtle to not speak in the trailer.

I have to admit, I was surprised to see the Ninja Turtles in this game. It does make some bizarre sense. The Turtles recently did do a couple of crossover team-ups with Batman. They also met the original Ghostbusters in a pretty enjoyable miniseries. In a way, it's a pretty cool way to get people to give the game a try. People have loved the Turtles for 30 years, and hey, a fighting game is perfect for them. Hope people enjoy them! It's available on Windows, so I may give this game a shot...

TMNT: Out of the Shadows Trailer: My Thoughts

In 2014, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles returned to live-action film, and the reaction was mixed. Many hated it, but it still did well enough to warrant a coming sequel, Out of the Shadows.

As for my personal experiences with this film, I have to admit, I never watched it, although I have been meaning to. It wasn't because I thought the film would be bad or anything, I just never got around to it. The bad reviews didn't drive me away from seeing it, nor did the trailer. I just shrugged and went on to do other things. It wasn't like the trailers to the last Fantastic Four movie. When I saw those, I thought. "Thing looks alright. Everything else looks dull and bleak, though."

Anyway, as for the coming TMNT sequel, the first trailer just dropped.

I have to admit, this trailer got me excited. I am eager to see this. The Turtles look bright and colorful. As someone who also has seen the original TMNT cartoon as a kid, it's really great seeing Bebop and Rocksteady finally make their live-action debut.

Seriously, the two mutants look amazing on film. The effects team deserves kudos for that. And Bebop's line to the Turtles made me laugh. Also, as a wrestling fan, it's really neat seeing Sheamus as Rocksteady. I hope we get to see the Turtles get a Brogue Kick.

It feels like the film is drawing heavily from the 1980s-1990s Turtles cartoon, with Bebop and Rocksteady, Vernon returning, the portal possibly indicating Krang, and the Turtle Van. Yup, the Turtle Van. Which is awesome. It shoots MANHOLE COVERS out of its front. I think that's it's pretty cool.

The trailer really gives a feeling of fun throughout it. You really get the impression the people making this film were really enjoying themselves, and that helps contribute to the general...aura of a film, you could call it.

In all, this trailer was exciting, and I want to see this movie.

Batman/TMNT, My Thoughts.

Comics can surprise you, mainly in the form of the crossover. We've seen epic ones, like JLA/Avengers, and strange ones, like Archie Meets the Punisher. We've seen lots of crossovers over the years, and the latest is an announcement of DC Comics and IDW, Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be meeting up in a six-issue mini-series by James Tynion IV and Freddie Williams II.

"Yo, Bat-Dude! Any good pizza joints in Gotham?"
I'm looking forward to this crossover. The creative team promises "wall-to-wall ninja action in Gotham", so maybe the heroes will be taking on the League of Assassins and the Foot Clan. It is possible interdimensional hijinks may be involved, mainly because of Krang, and alternate dimensions was how they pulled off the TMNT/Ghostbusters crossover (a really cool crossover in its own right).

This crossover looks like a lot of fun. I haven't been buying a lot of DC stuff lately, due to my scaling back on comics buying, and because a lot of titles lost their appeal to me, but I will be getting this.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trailer

So, I saw the trailer for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film:

Now, I am well aware of the response to the trailer, especially since Michael Bay is involved. One of the big complaints I have heard about the film is the appearance of the Turtles themselves, being often compared to Shrek.

To be honest...I don't think the film will be that bad, to be honest. Yeah, Michael Bay will be involved, but he's only producing, not directing. And he has said his team will be working with the creators to tell a good story that is true to the source material, and Kevin Eastman has shown his support for the new film. Besides, it's sure to be better than that the film that the infamous leaked "Blue Door" script put out.

As for the Turtles' looks, the one thing that I will admit that threw me off was their size. These turtles are...big. They are big Turtles. I will admit, I also do think their faces are kinda funny (I think they were trying to go for a mix of human and turtle). However, let's keep something in mind. The Teenage Mutant Turtles are turtles that were mutated by radioactive ooze. A little bit of weird in their look is perfectly fine, as far as I'm concerned.

As for the trailer itself, it's gotten me very excited for this film. I can't wait to see this film, and it will hopefully be the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie I get to see in an actual theater. I never got to see the previous TMNT live-action movies in theaters as I was only a kid.
