Capcom Fighting Collection Announcement Trailer, My Thoughts

If there's one thing that Capcom is known for besides Mega Man, it's their fighting games. Capcom is one of those companies that is practically synonymous with the genre, mainly thanks to the Street Fighter series, the sixth game recently announced as in the works. They've released many a fighting game over the years, and some of them will be compiled in a collection for the Nintendo Switch. Let's look at the trailer!

Street Fighter is 35 years old? Oh God, I feel old.

I like Capcom's collections. The Beat 'Em Up Bundle is great. Get it.

Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors - Also known as Vampire: The Night Warriors. The first game in the Darkstalkers series, it was developed and released to arcades by Capcom in 1994. The game was a big hit in arcades, being the fourth highest-grossing arcade game in Japan. The first console port was for the original PlayStation in 1996. In this game, you fight as ten monster-themed characters to stop an evil fire alien called Pyron from devouring Earth. This game introduced beloved characters like the catgirl Felicia and the succubus Morrigan.

Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge - The second game in the Darkstalkers series. It would be developed and released by Capcom to arcades in 1995. Like its predecessor, it was a big hit in the arcades. Its first console port was to the Sega Saturn in 1996. Even though this game is considered a sequel, its story is basically an enhanced version of the first game's with endings and storylines for the new characters: Donovan Baine and the jiang-shi Hsien-Ko.

Vampire Savior - Aka Darkstalkers 3. The third game in the Darkstalkers series, it was released to arcades in 1997. It's first console ports were to the Sega Saturn and PlayStation in 1998. In this game, the Darkstalkers try to stop the evil demon Jedah Dohma from using his new world called the Majigen from supplanting the demon world of Makai. The game would remove previous characters Pyron, Huitzil, and Donovan. It would also introduce four new characters to the series: the Red Riding Hood-inspired Darkhunter B.B. Hood, the bee-like Q-Bee, the succubus Lilith, and Jedah himself.

Vampire Hunter 2: Darkstalkers' Revenge - This is basically an updated version of Vampire Savior. It tweaks some characters and changes up the lineup a bit.

Vampire Savior 2 - Another version of Vampire Savior.

Cyberbots: Full Metal Madness - A spinoff of the beat-em-up Armored Warriors, this game was developed and released by Capcom to arcades in 1995. The cabinet had limited distribution outside of Japan. It was ported to the Sega Saturn and PlayStation in 1997. However, those ports were not released outside of Japan...well, except for an untranslated release on the PlayStation Network.

Red Earth - This fantasy-themed fighting game was released to arcades in 1996. This Switch collection is this game's first port to a console as well as its first official release outside of Japan. Set in an alternate 14th century Earth (A post-apocalyptic 1999 in the original Japanese), a quartet of heroes must ride to defend Earth from a country of monsters. This game incorporated a Quest Mode, allowing the characters to be played through their storylines. These storylines had RPG elements to them, allowing the character to grow stronger and pick up new moves.

Hyper Street Fighter II - The Anniversary Edition - Released to arcades and the PlayStation 2 in 2003 in Japan, 2004 in North America. This was a version of the iconic Street Fighter II made to celebrate the game's 15th Anniversary. This version of the game allowed players to fight as any version of the roster from the previous versions: the original, Champion Edition, Hyper Fighting, Super, and Super Turbo.

Super Gem Fighter: Mini Mix - Released to arcades in Japan and North America in 1997. Ported to the PlayStation internationally in 1998, and to the Sega Saturn in Japan only in 1998. This game uses characters from Street Fighter II, Red Earth, and Darkstalkers in a super deformed style. One notable mechanic is the ability to collect gems to power up fighters.

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo - Released to arcades in 1996, and ported to numerous consoles, this game is a puzzle game that also is a crossover with Darkstalkers.

I love behind the scenes stuff like concept art. It's neat we'll get that here. And a BGM player?! Sweet! Game music is fun to listen to!

Makes sense a collection like this would have online capability. Play with your friends no matter where they are!

I have to admit, this is quite an interesting collection...but I do admit, I do find it odd that there are multiple versions of Vampire Savior 2 here. I get that they're tweaked, but it seems like filler to me. I'd love to give Red Earth and Cyberbots a try, though.
