Happy International Friendship Day!
What is International Friendship Day, you may ask? Well, it's a day dedicated to celebrating friendships.
A "friendship day" was first proposed in 1958 in Paraguay by Joyce Hall, founder of Hallmark Cards. A Dr. Ramon Artemio Bracho in the same year proposed the idea of a global version of a "friendship day". This would lead to the birth of the World Friendship Crusade. The WFC is a foundation that naturally promotes friendships, regardless of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, etc. Friendship Day has been regularly celebrated in Paraguay since then and other nations would adopt the concept.
After years of lobbying by the WFC, the United Nations would declare July 30 an "International Day of Friendship" in 2011.
Humans are social beings by nature, and friendships do provide benefits. They help give us emotional support systems, can help improve health by reducing stress, and generally help improve the quality of life.
So, get out there and make a friend today! Spend some time with a friend, and enjoy them! Thanks for reading this blog entry! See you next time!
