Text Play: Pokémon Xenoverse #31

Hello, and welcome back to the Eldiw region! This is entry number 31 in my Text Play of Pokémon Xenoverse!

As is tradition, I must warn you, I will be spoiling this game.

I highly recommend that you play through this game first before you read this Text Play. You can do so here. And with that, let's do this!

Last time, we encountered Victor, the head of Team Dimension. With him out of the way, we can go to Hypelion City. Before you ask, yes. That's how the game spells it. I'm certain they meant Hyperion. 😒

First thing's first, healing up our Pokémon. Man, am I glad we stocked up on supplies.

Once our Pokémon got their proper Potion shakes, we can continue down Route 8. Right nearby us, there's a cowboy.

We can pass him if you want to, but I'm going to battle him. He wants a piece of us anyway, as he saw the accident and it scared his horse. And nobody. Nobody. NOBODY. Scares. Gray's. Horse.

Cowboy Gray
1st Pokemon: Rapidash (Lv. 40) - Defeated by Pelipper.

Once we sent that cowboy packing, we can continue on. Going downwards slightly reveals a merchant nearby.

The merchant's wares tend to lean on more of the...what's the proper word to use here? Naturalistic? Holistic? You can battle him by trying to open the Item Box. I'm going to, because I want to get that Achievement.

Merchant Waylon
1st Pokemon: Kecleon (Lv. 42) - Defeated by Xatu
2nd Pokemon: Meowth (Lv. 44) - Defeated by Palossand

He gives you a Rare Candy for beating him. We continue heading downwards. You know, this place reminds me of the canyon. We can find an Item Box here.

It contains a Ganlon Berry. If a Pokémon holds it, it can raise its Defense stat in a pitch. Not sure if it applies to physical or special defense, though... Anyway, we just keep going downwards.

We can battle this woman here if you want to. If you want to avoid her, you can do that, too. Just go all the way to the left and go downwards. She won't see you. If you do, she'll blame you for her not being able to calm her crying child down. Lady, you're out here in the middle of the road! Take your kid home!

Redneck Louisiana
1st Pokemon: Dusmee (Lv. 36) - Defeated by Xatu. Xatu used Psychic, which hit it really hard.
2nd Pokemon: Whisteract (Lv. 39) - Defeated by Trishout with Boomburst.

Going further down, we encounter another Item Box and a trainer.

The box contains a Lansat Berry. If you give it to a Pokemon, this Berry will raise the holder's critical-hit ratio in a pinch. It's handy if you're in a major battle, as it could help turn the tide in your favor. As for the cowgirl there, if you don't want to battle her, you can walk behind her. She doesn't like it when people make jokes about her name.

Cowgirl Mamimami (Who names these people?)
1st Pokémon: Ampharos (Lv. 41) - Defeated by Palossand.

Going further down, we find a third Item Box and a lake you can fish in.

The box contains a Luxury Ball. If you catch a wild Pokémon with it, it'll become friendlier faster. we keep on going down.

The box here contains X Accuracy. You can also battle the Hiker here if you wish.

Hiker Dawson
1st Pokémon: Excalibould (Lv. 38) - Defeated by Pelipper. Be careful here when using Pelipper as  Excalibould knows Rock Slide, which is super-effective against Pelipper. Pelipper is Water/FLYING, and Rock Slide is ROCK-type attack. I was lucky enough to defeat this Excalibould with one blast of Water Pulse. The battlefield raining must have helped.
2nd Pokémon: Golem (Lv. 41) - Defeated by Phantump.

Once that's done, we're right near a tunnel. This is presumably the entrance to Hypelion City.

The sign here isn't one that welcomes us. Instead, for some reason, it talks about Masgot. the sign tells us that they occasionally occupy Pokémon Dens by disguising themselves as the Den's main Pokémon. You have to cast them out to catch them. Funny enough, I don't think we've encountered these Dens in a long time. Anyway, let's go through the tunnel. welcome to Hypelion City.

When we enter the city, an old...friend meets us.

Yeah, remember this guy? We last saw him back in entry #26. Well, he gives us the scoop on this city. Hypelion City can be seen as a musical heaven. It's like the Nashville of the Eldiw region. He guesses we're here to get another Badge. Well, yeah. It's a big city, so there is likely a Gym here. But hey, maybe we can catch some live tunes while we're here.

Unfortunately, it seems that we came at a bad time. You see, a musician named Wallace Daddy is going to hold a big event here tomorrow. It's so big that the city is essentially being shut down.

He's got a new hot single, and he's going to perform it. And it turns out he's also Hypelion's Gym Leader, so...yeah. Seriously, he didn't have a substitute prepared for this? I mean, you'd think that being a world-famous musician, he'd have somebody prepared to do Gym Leader duties in his place if he's out on tour or doing an interview on a talk show or something like that.

Anyway, our fan offers us a tour of the city. Alright, that sounds fun, let's do it.

Our first stop is the Hip-Top Store.

This store is the headquarters of a fashion brand that is beloved by all of Eldiw. The clothes here are part of Wallace Daddy's fashion brand. Yeah, like many musicians, he's also gone into fashion design. He does warn us that things here are not cheap. The next stop is Hypelion's concert square.

This is the heart of the city. Wallace Daddy's performance will be held here. You know, seeing this reminds me of this big gazebo-like structure where I live. Live concerts are held there during the summer. Our fanboy is excited as he's a big fan of Daddy's music. He takes us to our third stop: The Hypelion Rail Station.

This was where the Quasar Express would have gone...if we didn't accidentally wreck it. Whoops.

Ah well, that's more Team Dimension's fault. Their taking over the train led to that mess. Anyway, the building is covered in graffiti, as you can see. A lot of buildings here have Pokemon graffitied on them. The people here aren't bothered by it. I guess they like the atmosphere. The building is still in use, but something is broken in there, so it's closed up right now. Yeah, I can guess what is "broken". 😬 But let's continue on with the tour, hoping we don't get arrested. And now for the last stop on the tour: The Hypelion City Gym!

Yup, this is where Wallace Daddy whups on challengers for the sixth badge when he's not performing or running his fashion line. The Gym is a big skyscraper that naturally also has a recording studio. The trainers in the Gym are also artists themselves. I wonder if that implies that Wallace Daddy also has his own record label. It's closed, as it's established earlier. But in celebration of his new single, he has arranged a free buffet! Mmm, free buffet...

Our fan won't be able to cheer us, but he'll be enjoying the free food. Can't blame him. Who doesn't love free food? Once we go inside...

Yeah, you may notice the QR code on the ground there. There is a reason for it, but that is not important right now. This dude greets us.

He tells us about the buffet, which we already knew about. That's great, Seb. NOW GIVE ME FOOD. I'M HUNGRY. We head up to the buffet table.

I admit, I'm a bit underwhelmed. I went to a Chinese buffet restaurant recently, and they had, like, three rows of choices. There was so much great food there. I am wondering if Wallace Daddy is cheaping out a bit with this buffet... or the game makers never went to a buffet restaurant before.

Anyway, walking around the room, we see that there's some people here. Not as many as I'd expect, considering how famous Wallace Daddy supposedly is. Talking to them reveals them just praising his tunes or debating which of his songs is the best. I personally think "Gardevoir Blues" is a hidden gem among his body of work myself.

And then there's a hipster.

Heh heh, hipster. A pair of nearby TVs reveals a bit of his biography. He was an orphaned boy named Santana, growing up in the slums of Alola. He would pickpocket people in order to have money to eat. This led him to join Team Skull. Huh. I wonder if he met Guzma or Plumeria?

It was in the group he found his talent for freestyle rapping. The Boss of Team Skull recommended he try doing it professionally. He did do that, but Alola was not receptive of his innovative musical stylings. The Boss suggested that he go to Eldiw, where music lovers there were always hungry for something fresh and unique. Santana did just that, moving to Westar City. He took up the stage name of "Wallace Daddy", and now we are here. I think this is pretty neat. Giving the Gym Leaders backstories helps them feel more like actual characters instead of just obstacles we have to overcome in order to go forward in the game.

Either way, it's been a long journey, and we could use a bit of food. So, let's dig in! Might as well, as we can't leave until we enjoy the buffet. We start by talking to this guy.

He highly recommends the cream puffs, as they are quite delicious. However...they weren't supposed to be here. From there, the screen goes black, and we see dialogue of how great these desserts are. Yeah, strange desserts appearing out of nowhere. That's not a bad sign.

You know, if strange food that you know you did not arrange for a buffet suddenly appears, maybe you should discourage people from eating it. Somebody could be trying to poison someone, maybe even Wallace Daddy himself. Just because the man has a lot of fans, doesn't mean there aren't people out there trying to take him out for whatever crazy reason.

When the screen returns to normal, we find that the party is winding down.

And our fanboy is sad he didn't get to eat any of these desserts. I get the feeling you dodged a bullet, pal. And besides, I'm sure there were other options for desserts. The last time I went to a buffet, I had Jello and chocolate pudding. Mmm, chocolate pudding...

Sebastian apologizes for this and gives us a Rare Candy as a consolation prize. We can leave the party now, and Fanboy takes us to the last stop on his tour. You think he'd be showing us where the local Pokémon Center is, right?

Well, sort of. We do pass it by, but we end up in his home. He lives next to the Pokémon Center in town.

Yeah, bud. Let's let some stranger just come into your house and sleep in your bed. That totally always ends well.

Ah, well. Might as well rest here. He was kind enough to let us stay here, after all. I went over to the Pokemon Center to heal my Pokemon up. I learned something interesting. Evidently, one of the people hanging out in Hypelion has hinted that Wallace Daddy himself is a founder of this city.

Yeah, that's what I thought. That sounds...nonsensical to me.

But we can puzzle all that out another time. Time for sleep.

In the Fanboy's house, we find that he has a nice place, except for all the graffiti and paint splotches. What did he do here? If those splotches were red, then I'd be worried.

Anyway, his wastebasket is full. Maybe there's an item in it.

And there is not. Evidently, we must have been exhausted, because we slept all night long. I don't know about you, but I haven't felt that rested in a long time. It's great. 😊 And it's a good thing we did, because it's time for Wallace Daddy's show!

He's holding his show at the town square, so let's head down there and see what he's like.

Our fanboy is there to greet us, and the concert starts.

People are clearly hyped for Wallace, fans are jumping up and down. The lights flare. Smoke rises, and the man of the hour makes his grand entrance.

This looks like we're in for quite a fun show. The crowd is hyped to hear his new song. The song starts, but then something happens. Fans start feeling sick. They start vomiting. It leads to people fleeing the concert. I didn't see any Porta-Potties around, so I can imagine the ground is covered in puke.

Wallace wonders if the song really was that bad. This is a new thing for him, people fleeing his concerts. Our fanboy doubts that was why people left. He points out the strange desserts left at the buffet yesterday. He nor I had any of them, but many of the concertgoers did. They must've been put there for the purpose of making people sick. Wallace wants to go to the Gym and get to the bottom of this. Yeah, Sebastian, you should have taken those desserts away, pal.

We head back to the Gym, where we learn the culprit.

A weird purple Pokémon? I swear to Arceus, if it's that jerkoff X Gengar again...no, that's not his style. If the culprit was X Gengar, he'd be making people bring the buffet food to his greedy butt. He's done it before. Wallace wonder is it's the purple Pokemon he's looking at right now. What?

...oh my Arceus, it's a Slurpee-zilla!

There are a lot of questions here, but the main one is...HOW DID THIS THING GET THAT BIG?!

Wallace isn't worried. He saw something like this in a movie, and as such, he knows exactly what to do. He also asks us to help out. I mean, sure. That thing is clearly a Xenoverse Pokémon, and we do have experience with them. We'll have to meet him on the roof. We head in and take the elevator. From there, we can go to the top floor, where Wally has his studio. Exiting the elevator, we go down the hall and to the left, where we find the door of the studio. On the walls next to the door are several Gold and Platinum records. Man, Wally must be quite the popular musician if he's able to achieve all this. But we can gawk later, we have an X Pokemon to deal with!

This is a nice little studio. Ah, focus! Don't worry about the door in the screenshot or the wastebasket. The door is locked, and the wastebasket is empty. We need to take those stairs to the roof. when we arrive, there is a nearby Porygon Center if we need it. Wallace calls us over, happy to see us. After all, there is strength in numbers. The fanboy tells Wallace that we're pretty brave, never backing down from a challenge. And the help that Wallce calls for arrives.

Hey, it's the GEIST gang! How you guys doing?! It's been a while since we last met. Anyway, they try to attack the giant Slurpuff, but it's not a ghost, so their weapons are useless.

The Fanboy theorizes it's likely a Poison-type, not a Ghost-type. The Slurpuff attacks, and they vanish. Wally claims they got blown up. Hope not, I liked those guys. Well, guess it's up to us to deal with this big monster...next month.

Yup, going to leave you on one heck of a cliffhanger this month. Join me next time when we take on the Slurpuff-zilla! Thanks for reading this blog entry! If you liked it, show it off! Take care of yourselves and each other!
