In 1988, Warner Bros. released the film Beetlejuice. The film was directed by Tim Burton from a screenplay by Michael McDowell and Warren Skaaren based on a story by McDowell and Larry Wilson. It told the tale of a recently deceased couple whose house gets new inhabitants. The ghostly couple hire a "Bio-exorcist" named Betelgeuse (pronounced "Beetlejuice"), to scare away the new living inhabitants.
The film would be a box office success, making $74.7 million on a $15 million budget. It also won the Academy Award for Best Makeup at the 61st Academy Awards. The film spawned a franchise, including an animated series. I remember the cartoon. A sequel had been in development for decades since, but now it's finally coming to light, with Michael Keaton reprising his role as Betelgeuse, as well as Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara returning as respectively, Lydia and Delia Deetz. The cast will also include Willem Dafoe, Monica Belucci, and Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz, Lydia's daughter. Let's look at the trailer!
Well, this looks like a perfectly normal regular town where nothing strange ever goes on.
Yeah, I get why they killed Charles off. I do. I mean, the actor who played him, Jeffrey Jones, turned out to be a perv. I understand that. But personally, I would have just recast. Surely, they could have found a new actor to play him that was not a perv. I don't think it would have been that hard.
Heh heh, Tally Man. I do like the remix used here. Gives it a nice spooky vibe.
That is a very nicely done model of the town.
Okay, who spilled that mood slime from Ghostbusters II on the model town?!
Well, look who's back. Was he trapped in there for the last 35 years?
I admit, I am intrigued. My experience with Beetlejuice is actually not from the first movie, but from the cartoon. I have seen bits and pieces of the first movie (mainly the scene where they're all dancing at the table), and now I think I will give it a full view. I have it on DVD, after all. Thanks for reading this blog entry! If you liked it, show it off! Take care of yourselves, and each other! See you next time!
