Back in June 2025, I gave my thoughts on the announcement trailer for the fighting game Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. It was a fighting game with a twist: Instead of a basic one-on-one fight, you start with one character and an assist character and unlock a full team of four characters by satisfying certain conditions. In February 2026, I gave my thoughts on the first of these teams revealed for the game: the Unbreakable X-Men.
Let's look at the trailer!
Ah, this lady requires a bit of explanation. Meet Xirena Awhina, aka the Promoter. Created by writer Jeremy Whitley and Simone Buanfantino, she first appeared in Thor vs. Hulk: Champions of the Universe #1 (September 2017). The Promoter is one of the Elders of the Universe.
In the Marvel Universe, when a sentient species has only one survivor left, that survivor can potentially access something called the Power Primordial (residual energies left over from the Big Bang), which makes them into a sort of cosmic being. Most of the Elders are billions of years old, and almost every Elder of the Universe has a particular obsession or specialty. For example, the Promoter's specialty is, well, promoting events. The two most famous Elders are the Collector and the Grandmaster, as those two have interacted the most with Marvel's superheroes thanks to their specialties, Collector collects things, and the Grandmaster likes to make others play games.
Yeah, I admit, I never read the comics in which she appeared, but destroying the planet does not seem like her style.
A team called the Amazing Guardians would have Spider-Man in it, after all.
And of course, it'd have Kamala Khan here. Kamala Khan, like quite a few other Marvel characters, was an attempt to recapture the lightning in a bottle that was Spider-Man. Thing was, like Peter, she was a big hit from the beginning, her book was critically acclaimed and sold very well. As such, the character quickly would go on to appear in other media, even her own mini-series set in the MCU. So yes, it makes sense for her to be here.
Her VA does a good job capturing her. Kudos.
I love that this version of Star-Lord also rocks the Element Gun from his original 1970s adventures. I hope we get to see MCU Star-Lord get the Element Gun. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 did hint that the Legendary Star-Lord would return...
Peni Parker is a surprise, but another one that makes sense. She's arguably regarded as one of the more popular alternate takes on Spider-Woman, mainly thanks to her appearances in the Into the Spider-Verse movies.
And yes, Kamala would geek out over Peni's robot.
Hey, we get to fight in Knowhere! That rules. Fun fact, Knowhere in the comics is the decayed head of a dead Celestial that got that way thanks to Knull.
And of course, being a Spider based on anime and manga tropes, SP//DR would have a ROCKET PUNCH!
Well, this is a pretty cool roster. My only real critique is that the team tends to lean a little more towards the Spider-Man corner of the Marvel Universe. Rocket Raccoon would have been a great character for this game, for example. Or Drax. Or Gamora. You could also do some fun stuff with Groot and his cholorokinetic powers. But still, seeing Peni Parker is a nice surprise. And her using a mech makes her stand out from Spider-Man. Thanks for reading this blog entry! If you liked it, show it off!
