Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire Teaser, My Thoughts

The Mighty MonsterVerse marches on! In the last movie, Godzilla and King Kong battled it out, but in the upcoming fifth film in the MonsterVerse, the two Titans now must join forces against a new threat from within the depths of the Earth. Let's look at the trailer for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire!

The seismograph is going a bit buggy. *whacks it* WORK!

I would like to see the pyramids one day.

That's a big hand.

Aw man, the pyramids are going to get wrecked, aren't they?

Funny enough, I saw Fire and Ice on Tubi recently, and I think riding a pterodactyl would be pretty cool.

Kong's getting a bit on the years. I think his fur is grayer.

"I GOT AN AXE, AND I AM NOT AFRAID TO USE IT!"

Awwww, the little giant baby monkey is so cute.

No, it ain't Kong. The fingers are too thin.

What the heck could have killed all those Kongs?

I get the feeling we just got a glimpse of perhaps some ancient civilization that once worshipped the Kongs.

Godzilla! Now in refreshing pink lemonade flavor! It's hard pink lemonade, so Hellboy can get drunk with his skeleton buddies!

I think we just saw the villain.

Seeing Godzilla and Kong run together is so cool. And it looks like the big ape got himself a fancy new glove.

I wonder if it's for an injury. It looks like the glove we saw earlier in the trailer, and it didn't seem to be a cybernetic prosthetic.

Well, I have to admit, I am freakin' hyped for this! I have enjoyed the MonsterVerse movies, and this one looks like it will be another winner! 👍 Thanks for reading this blog entry! Godzilla Minus One Trailer, My Thoughts

Let's look at the trailer!

"Where's Ultraman when you need him?!"
"He hasn't been created yet!"
"...awww, nuts!"

Man, Godzilla must hate trains!

Well, it ain't Batman, lady!

"GODZILLA HUNGRY! NOM NOM NOM!"

Godzilla really hates Japan, doesn't he? I mean, the dude just loves messing that country up!

(seriously)

Godzilla vs. Kong Trailer, My Thoughts

Godzilla. King Kong. Two of film's most famous and beloved giant monsters. In 1962, they faced off in the Toho film King Kong vs. Godzilla. It left fans of both monsters hungering to see a rematch between the two. In October 2015, Legendary Pictures announced that Godzilla and Kong would face off again as part of their MonsterVerse. And now, nearly sixty years since their last face-off, we're going to see round two in the form of Godzilla vs. Kong. This film is the 4th MonsterVerse film, the 12th King Kong film, and the 36th Godzilla movie. Let's look at the trailer!

Was that Mecha-Godzilla?

Aww, Kong's taking a nice nap. Sleepy gorilla, happy gorilla...

She's a human, he's a giant gorilla. How does the parenting situation work?

"So, we're going to drag this little kid away from her home because she has a connection to the big gorilla who we want to fight the big lizard-dragon-dinosaur."

Love that shot of Godzilla's dorsal spikes/fins popping out of the water. Also, you can tell something is off. In the previous Monsterverse movies, Godzilla tried to avoid ships when he swam or warn them off.

"YOU WOKE ME UP, YA SCALY JERK! COME UP HERE AND GET YER WHUPPIN'!"

BAH GAWD ALMIGHTY, KING! WHAT A RIGHT HAND FROM KONG! HE STAGGERED GODZILLA!

Ooh, Godzilla surrounded by neon. Looks cool.

Kong's got a hammer! Or an axe, I think. Either way, it's a great subtle link to Kong: Skull Island. It shows that whereas Godzilla tends to lean on brute force, Kong is a thinker.

Also, a war? Did Godzilla encounter others of Kong's species before? I mean, Skull Island did establish there were other "Kongs" before this one.

Thought that was Rodan for a second there.

Neither does Godzilla, lady.

BAH GAWD! HE BLOCKED THE ATOMIC BREATH! HE BLOCKED THE ATOMIC BREATH! THAT BIG APE IS BRINGING THE HAMMER DOWN!

That...was...AWESOME! Oh man, this was so cool! I loved the previous Monsterverse films, so I was already excited to see Kong and Godzilla meet. But now...I am MORE excited. I cannot wait to see this movie. I don't care if it's at a theater, or on my TV. I want to see this movie! I hope I do get to see it in a theater, though...

Movie Review: Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)

In 2014, Legendary Pictures released Godzilla, the 30th film in the long-running Japanese kaiju franchise. The film was a reboot of the franchise, but also meant to kick off Legendary Pictures' own MonsterVerse (A cinematic universe of films that also included 2017's Kong: Skull Island.). The film was a major critical and box office success, making over $500 million worldwide. It was praised for Gareth Edwards' direction, musical score, visual effects, cinematography, and the performance of Bryan Cranston. It was given criticism for its characters and Godzilla's low screen time. Personally, I loved this movie.

For the sequel, Legendary decided to go bigger. We weren't getting just one monster in this movie, we were going to get new takes on some of Toho's most iconic monsters, like Rodan, Mothra,...and King Ghidorah. So, was this movie worthy of the King of the Monsters? Let's find out!

The film starred Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga and Millie Bobby Brown as the Russell Family: Dr. Mark Russell, Dr. Emma Russell, and Madison Russell. Dr. Mark Russell was a scientist who once worked for Monarch, the MonsterVerse's resident government organization that deals with the giant monsters. After a tragedy caused by Godzilla's battle against the MUTOs in San Francisco, the family has fallen apart, but the rise of a new group of monsters bring them into an epic adventure.

One of the big issues I had with this movie was Charles Dance's character of Alan Jonah. He didn't really seem to do a lot in the movie. There wasn't a whole lot of reason for him there. Hopefully, a future movie will give his bioterrorist group some more spotlight and deepen his character a bit.

I also personally did wish that we got to see Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Ford Brody again. I would have liked to see what Brody had been up to since the events of the last movie. It would have helped strengthen the connection between the two movies.

The human characters are a bit underdeveloped, and the story is a bit cliché, but it didn't bother me that much. I don't think anybody watches these movies for the human characters much, anyway. It's all about the monster fights, and the film does deliver well on that.

The big thing I loved about this movie was of course, the monster battles. We get plenty of them in this movie. I did with some of the monsters that cameoed in the movie did get to appear in the final battle, though. I get that they're establishing that there are quite a few monsters out there, but it felt a little unsatisfying.

Another positive was Bradley Whitford as Dr. Rick Stanton. He was a great character. I really liked him. Also, there was a scene that nearly made me shed a tear. I will not spoil it. Another thing I will not spoil is a link to another movie.

Do I recommend this movie? I personally enjoyed it. The monster battles were fun, and there were a couple shout-outs I found to some classic Godzilla films, including the original. If you like seeing giant monsters beat the holy macaroni out of each other, this is for you.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters Final Trailer, My Thoughts

Back in July of last year, I gave my thoughts on the first trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Legendary Pictures' sequel to the 2014 film Godzilla. This is the third film in Legendary's MonsterVerse franchise, and it will be the 35th film in the Godzilla franchise. I remember being pretty excited for this movie when it was announced. I really liked the 2014 Godzilla movie. I also own Kong: Skull Island, and I have to watch it sometime. Anyway, let's look at this trailer!

Ah, an average day on an oil field. Nothing bad could possibly happen here.

Oh look, they struck oil! ...in a field that's already harvesting oil.

See? Even giant monsters agree! We need to support green power!

Ooh, look at Mothra! She looks awesome!

...is that supposed to be Anguirus?

And here we see Rodan enjoying his regular volcano bath. They're very relaxing for him. They loosen the tense wing muscles.

That looks like a Mothra larva. I'm guessing that Millie Bobby Brown's character will have a bond of sorts with it.

I like the shot of King Ghidorah with the cross. If any of Toho's kaiju can be considered the Devil, it's King Ghidorah. It is often the villain of the Godzilla films.

Godzilla's like "ALRIGHT! I'M AWAKE! WHADDAYA WANT?!"

Oh hey, Dr. Serizawa! How you doing?

Something really cool about seeing Godzilla march into battle being flanked by jet fighters.

Alright, we're seeing some tag-team action with this movie! I'm also hoping that we see Godzilla and the other monsters team up to fight Ghidorah. After all, they've done it before.

I like the action going to the beat of the music.

BOOM.

OUCH. THAT HAS TO HURT.

Ghidorah puts the shock in "Shock and Awe".

I have to admit, I never thought I'd see "Over the Rainbow" used like this.

They're right. This is Godzilla's world.

I am really excited for this movie! It looks like it will be a real blast. As I have said, I enjoyed the last Godzilla movie that Legendary put out, so I can't wait to see their takes on the other classic Toho monsters. They all look spectacular, and this trailer has gotten me so excited for this movie!

Godzilla, King of the Monsters Trailer, My Thoughts

In 1954, a Japanese science-fiction film was brought into the world. It was the ultimate expression of the fears of the nuclear bomb. The bomb created a giant dinosaur/dragon-esque monster that stomped Tokyo to the ground. That monster's name? In his homeland, he's called Gojira, but you may know him...as Godzilla.

After 64 years, Godzilla has become an international film icon. He presides over the longest-running film series in history (33 and counting), has appeared in various other media including comic books and cartoons, and has played a variety of roles from force of nature to anti-hero to outright heroic character. He spawned a franchise full of monsters about as iconic as he is, including allies like Mothra, Rodan, and Anguirus, and arguably his arch-nemesis King Ghidora.

The United States has embraced the King of the Monsters with their own films: A 1996 movie that was not received very well, a 2014 reboot that was critically and commercially acclaimed...and a sequel.

That's right! Legendary Pictures is bringing the King of the Monsters back to American shores with a follow up to 2014's Godzilla (Which is a great movie). He's also bringing a couple of old friends with him...and an old enemy. So, let's take a look at this trailer!

Hey, it's Millie Bobby Brown, from Stanger Things! I heard that was good.

Mass extinction event, huh? Eh, nothing the Earth has been through before.

Oh my God, those clouds are angry...and quite hungry.

So, basically, the Earth is tired of humanity's foolishness, and decides to send up some monsters to break our stuff. Gotta admit, that's a twist.

Oh, that dragon head looks familiar...if it lets out a bell-like laugh, I'm out of here.

What as that, a giant turtle? That can't be Gamera. He's not even a Toho monster!

You know that was Godzilla saying "I'M BACK, MOTHATRUCKAS!" He looks good, must've been hitting the gym.

HOLY COW, THAT WAS MOTHRA! THAT WAS MOTHRA! WE GOT MOTHRA! Yeah, that turtle-head thing may have been a Mothra larva.

AND RODAN! THAT WAS RODAN! After this movie, Godzilla must've called them and said, "Hey guys, I'm doin' a sequel! Get over here and you guys can be in it!"

Screw your planes, that's Rodan!

Oh God, that's King Ghidorah. If there is any kaiju in Toho's monster zoo that could be considered truly evil, it's this golden-plated three-headed destroyer. I would not be surprised if he was the villain in this movie.

Long Live the King, indeed.

I love that final shot with Godzilla and the fighter jets streaking through the sky alongside him. Really gives the impression that he and the humans are working together against a bigger threat.

I have to admit, I am hyped for this. I loved the 2014 Legendary Godzilla, and I think this one will be a ton of fun. Especially since we'll be seeing more monsters from Toho in this.

I'm only worried about one thing with this movie. Four monsters in this movie might be too much. Justice League showed the dangers of having a film packed with famous characters without proper buildup, so I worry that this film will suffer because it won't have enough room to give the monsters their due. Otherwise that, I am so looking forward to this film!
