Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed Announcement Trailer, My Thoughts

In 2010, the game Epic Mickey was released. Published by Disney Interactive Studios and developed by Junction Point Studios, this game tells an epic tale of one of Disney's most iconic characters: Mickey Mouse. Said mouse must save a land that is home of forgotten characters and concepts...that he accidentally damaged. Whoops. And among those forgotten characters? A certain Walt Disney/Ub Iwerks pre-Mickey collaboration: Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Originally owned by Universal, Disney reobtained the character in 2006, and this game marked the first time the two "brothers" appeared in the game together.

The game was an effort to restore the more mischievous and adventurous aspects of Mickey's personality that had been filed off over the years. The game would get mixed-to-positive reviews from gaming critics, the praise for the visual style, gameplay, and narrative. The game would help reignite interest in Oswald, and get sequels: Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, and Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion (which was a tribute to the Sega Illusion games).

And now, it's getting a remake! THQ Nordic is handling this, and it'll be coming to the Nintendo Switch, Windows, X-Box Series X/S, and PlayStations 4 and 5! Let's look at the trailer!

Aww, great! Now there's paint everywhere! This will be a nightmare to clean up!

Ahhhh, sleep. Who doesn't love sleeping?

I think the mirror was trolling you, Yen Sid.

Say what you will about that old wizard, he's one heck of a model maker.

Love the use of Sorcerer's Apprentice music.

I imagine Mick wanted to provide some alternate color schemes.

You know, Mick, if your paint forms a big black blob, WASH IT OFF, YA FOOL!

Ohhhhhhh, you messed up, Mick.

So, this implies that it has been literally decades since Mickey broke the Wasteland. Plenty of time for the problem to get out of control. Although I wonder what Yen Sid was doing during that time? Maybe working with Keyblade wielders.

Well! Nice knowing ya, Mick!

I've played this game and really enjoyed it, so I am thrilled to learn that it's getting a remake for the Switch and other consoles. Maybe this time around, they'll fix up the camera. I can't wait to sling paint and thinner on the go. Mostly paint in my case as I wanted to help Mickey fix the mess he caused. I hope a lot of people play and enjoy this game! Thanks for reading this blog entry! If you liked it, show it off! Take care of yourselves and each other! Take care of yourselves and each other! Stay safe, stay healthy, stay home, wash your hands often, wear a mask, and get your vaccine/booster! See you next time!

National Muffin Day!

Happy National Muffin Day, everyone!

This day celebrates the muffin. After all, muffins are great. But where did the muffin come from? Well, it's believed that the muffin evolved from flat breads baked in pans in Wales in the 10th century. These muffins would evolve into what would be known as "English muffins" by the 18th century. In the 19th century, quickbread or "American-style muffins" would start to appear in cookbooks.

Muffins have become a beloved food, whether as part of a breakfast or as part of a treat. I hope you got to enjoy one today!

Wolfpack #2 (September 1988)

It's that time again! It's time to join the young members of the Wolfpack as they defend the streets of the South Bronx! Last time, our heroes tried to take down a drug ring with some tragic consequences. However, the specter of tragedy would continue to haunt this group of young men and women. You'll see what I mean when we take a look at Wolfpack #2!

The cover is a Ron Wilson and Kyle Baker piece.

"Wheels"
Writer: Larry Hama
Penciler: Ron Wilson
Inker: Kyle Baker
Colorist: Max Scheele
Letterer: Joe Rosen
Editor: Terry Kavanagh
Editor-in-Chief: Tom DeFalco

The story begins in the home of Wheels Wolinski, naturally located in the South Bronx. His old man John Wolinski sees that Wheels is a bit down from the events of the previous issue. Without outright saying what he and the rest of the Pack did, Wheels tells John that he and his friends tried to do something positive, but people got hurt. John thinks this over and tells Wheels that one should always try to do some good, but it's okay to question this, as righteousness can be blinding in its own way. Their discussion is interrupted by John having to go to work.

John heads down to his job: working the turnstiles at a metro station. We get the impression as he walks down that John is a nice, rather popular guy. However, even he has his haters.

Jimmy Macanally here was once caught by John trying to jump the turnstiles. Since then, he's been burning for revenge against the man. Meanwhile, Wheels notices that John has forgotten his lunch box.

Wheels heads down his father's walking route to the metro station. Jimmy and his boys start a fire in John's station. The fire is meant to be a distraction, so they can burst in and take the tokens. Jimmy also decides to make an exchange: John's gold watch...for a bullet to the chest. The gang flees with their loot, passing by Wheels. As they flee, members of Jimmy's gang remark about the gun having quite a powerful recoil. Keep this detail in mind, folks. It'll pay off later.

Unaware Wheels is John's son, Jimmy kicks him over and basically gives him the "you tell anyone you saw me and I'll hurt you bad" threat. Sadly, John's gunshot proves to be fatal, and his funeral is held three days later.

Inspector Cassidy comes by to visit. He's looking for John's killer, but he's been stymied because no one will tell him anything. Not to mention he believes that Wheels knows who killed his father...and that Wheels plans to deliver a bit of street justice. The rest of the Pack want to know if Cassidy's right. Wheels just tells them he wants to be left alone.

A week later, the other members of the Pack are meeting at a rooftop. Sam reports that Wheels hasn't been seen much. He hasn't been to school. Rafael isn't too worried. He gets how Wheels is feeling, as he took his own father's death hard, too. However, Wheels hasn't been at home much, either. The rest of the Wolfpack realize that Cassidy was dead on. Wheels not only knows who killed his dad, but he's been on the hunt. The group's resident tactician is out for some revenge.

We get to see Wheels at work. He finds a pawn shop that his father's gold watch was in. Wheels blackmails the shop owner to telling him who pawned the watch.

The owner is all too happy to tell him. After all, he thinks Jimmy has been burning the candle at both ends too long. The Wolfpack also ask the people John interacted with regularly on his way to work. However, they are all clammed up. Sharon finds it odd as they were all John's friends. You'd think they'd want his killer brought down. Sam believes that Wheels has asked them to keep quiet. They managed to get a blind newspaper stand owner named Glo to admit she did hear the gunshot, and that Wheels is hunting down his dad's killer. She laments this will lead to a cycle of revenge. Wheels kills Jimmy, Jimmy's kin will likely come after him, etc. He's been looking for his dad's gold watch, checking every pawnbroker in the South Bronx. The Wolfpack split up to check all the pawnbrokers in the area.

As this is going down, Wheels has found Jimmy and his boys, who are out to do another "job". The angered teenager follows them, realizing what they're planning. Sam calls in Sharon using a payphone (remember, this is the 1980s), reporting that he found the pawnbroker who got John's gold watch, and Jimmy's address. Jimmy and his boys prepare to attack another token collector, Jimmy being warned about the gun's recoil. Wheels then ambushes them. In the scuffle, Jimmy drops his gun. He goes to grab it, but Wheels manages to catch him, planning to toss him onto the tracks as the distant rumble of a train could be heard.

Jimmy begs for mercy, but Wheels is not in the mood to hear it. They should no mercy towards his father, so why should he? The rest of the Wolfpack race into the subway. Wheels ultimately decides to toss Jimmy. Not into the tracks, but off to the side on the platform. He can't bring himself to kill Jimmy. It would sully his father's memory, and he is above that. The rest of the Pack arrive, as Jimmy picks up his gun. He fires it at Wheels, but Sam saves him.

Remember how earlier, it was shown the gun that Jimmy used to kill John had a powerful recoil? Well, it pays off here. The recoil of the gun causes Jimmy to fall onto the subway tracks...

…as a train bears down on him.

Looks like Wheels got his wish after all.

I did enjoy this issue. The story is a bit basic, it's the classic trope of realizing that revenge is a worthless cause. I would have liked seeing Wheels question himself a bit more when going after Jimmy, to help tie his crusade to the advice John gave him.

While I do think the art does help with the gritty street nature of the series, it can be hard to figure out sometimes. Like this panel here.

I had no idea which character said that line. Really.

X-Men '97 trailer, My Thoughts

From 1992-1997, as part of its Fox Kids programming block, Fox broadcast the series known as X-Men: The Animated Series. This series would last for five seasons of 78 episodes. The show was developed by Graz Entertainment (hired by Saban Entertainment) and animated by South Korean animation studio AKOM. This would be a beloved series, praised for its adapting the original comics.

Since 2019, Disney had expressed an interest in a revival of the series for its streaming service, Disney+. In November 2021, it was announced a revival/continuation was in the works: X-Men '97. The series will be developed by Marvel Animation. Several voice actors will be reprising their roles from the original series, like Cal Dodd as Wolverine, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, and George Buza as Beast. Some of the original actors will be returning in new roles, like Catherine Disher (the original Jean Grey) as Dr. Valerie Cooper. The voice cast will get some new additions, like Ray Chase. He'll be taking over for the late Norm Spencer as Cyclops, and Holly Chou as Jubilee. Let's look at the trailer!

Was that from an actual commercial?

Using footage from the final episode "Graduation Day" makes a lot of sense. Gives an idea that this show is truly a continuation of here, and not a reboot. Very smart!

Looks like the X-Men really...did not do a great job at that whole "promoting human-mutant peace thing". Not surprised, really. I blame Mendoza.

Hey, the Daily Bugle! I hope this leads to a revival of the Spider-Man series, as it is set in the same universe. I can also imagine that Spider-Man is angrily shaking his fist at the Bugle for not including the hyphen. And a nod to the Hellfire Galas from recent X-Men books. It has been thirty years, there's a lot more new material from the show to draw from. I recognize Banshee, Dust, Maggott, Nature Girl, and I think Loa. God, I hope they don't make Moira a mutant. Screw you, Jonathan Hickman.

So, I'm guessing that Lilandra wasn't able to help Xavier.

I wonder what that gold pyramid-like building is. Maybe a refurbished Xavier Institute?

Yeah, you can tell that Cal Dodd's Wolverine voice isn't quite what it used to be. To be fair, the man is nearly 70 years old, so...yeah. It's something you have to expect.

The animation does seem a bit stiff to me, but then again, so did the original series, so it fits.

Awwww, we're gonna get a baby Cable! Or maybe Rachel.

It's neat seeing Bishop being on the team.

Morph: "Awwwww, why can't we meet more nice giant robots? Like the Iron Giant? Or that Red Ronin guy? He was cool!"

...and then Logan exploded.

"And do your best cool pose! We gotta look awesome here, people!"

You know when he heard that, a part of Scott's brain screamed "CHARLES, YOU MOTHER_FU!"

Well, color me excited! I can't wait to watch this series! I loved the original X-Men cartoon as a kid, and seeing this trailer made me smile. This is going to be fun! Thanks for reading this blog entry! If you liked it, show it off1 Take care of yourselves and each other! Deadpool and Wolverine Teaser, My Thoughts

Back in 2016, 20th Century Fox released the film Deadpool. Directed by Tim Miller (his first feature film) and starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular Merc with a Mouth, it was the 8th film in the X-Men film series. It was a critical and financial success, earning $782 million against a $58 million budget, and was actually the highest-earning R-Rated film ever for a period of time. In 2018, the sequel, Deadpool 2 was released. But now with 20th Century Fox being acquired by Disney, that means Marvel Studios has regained the live-action film rights to X-Men characters, including Deadpool. This led to this new upcoming film, which will also bring back Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Let's look at the trailer for the upcoming 38th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Deadpool and Wolverine! A bit of warning before we begin, this trailer is a bit NSFW, so I highly recommend not watching this at work.

Happy Birthday, Wade! Time to celebrate! 🎉

Heh heh, Wade has a hairpiece.

Wait, didn't Shatterstar got diced up by helicopter blades in Deadpool 2! How is he here? And where did Domino go?

Nice to see Negasonic and Yukio are still together.

Yay, Peter! ...why has he not been brought into the comics?

You know, being able to break the Fourth Wall, you'd think Wade would be genre-savvy enough to know that peaceful times like this are only calms before big storms hit.

"Hey, you guys aren't the pizza delivery boy!"

The TVA! I wonder if this is pre- or post-Loki? I mean, the uniforms look a little different.

Okay, that was funny.

You guys could have at least let him keep his toupee.

It would have been weird if Wade didn't soil himself.

The actor there reminds me of Kevin Spacey.

Welcome to the MCU, Deadpool. We hope you survive. ...well, considering his healing factor, he likely would.

I like that little bit with Wade saluting Captain America. Wade admires the man in the comics, so it's nice to see that little detail shouted out.

Hey, an appearance by Logan in his Patch persona! 😀 I have heard a theory that this isn't the Hugh Jackman Wolverine of Wade's universe, but the "native MCU" version of Wolverine.

So, he's going to be Marvel's...personal Jesus? 🎵Reach out and touch faith... 🎵

If you watch carefully in that fast-going montage, Wade gets spanked.

And of course Wade is in a place with a crumbling Twentieth Century Fox logo. I think he's in the Void from Loki. Would make sense, considering the TVA being here.

That reload shot ruled.

I think these shots were altered to keep something hidden.

Hey, Pyro is back! 😀 And he's wearing an orange-and-red outfit!

Heh, like in the first movie!

That comic lying next to Wade appears to be an issue of the 2015 Secret Wars event. Makes sense, considering we're in the Multiverse Saga...

Ooh, I bet that will hurt.

Well, consider me excited! I have enjoyed the previous two Deadpool movies, and I can't wait to see this one in the theaters! Thanks for reading this blog entry! If you liked it, show it off! Take care of yourselves and each other! Stay safe, stay healthy, stay home, wash your hands often, wear a mask, and get your vaccine/booster! See you next time!

Marvel Two-in-One #4 (July 1974)

Back in January 2022, I took a look at an issue of the team-up book called Marvel Two-in-One. The premise of that title was simple: Ben Grimm, the Fantastic Four's ever-lovin' blue-eyed Thing teamed up various characters in the Marvel Universe in adventures of his own. The title would be most famous for the Project Pegasus saga. I thought it would be fun to take a look at another issue of the book. This is Marvel Two-in-One #4!

The cover is a Gil Kane and Joe Sinnott piece. It's pretty cool! It depicts Ben Grimm and Steve Rogers doing what they do best: clobberin' bad guys. I think some would not like the masthead logos taking up a third of the cover. It doesn't bother me personally, but I can imagine there was a more efficient way to free up some space. Maybe just Ben and Cap's heads on the corner box?

"Doomsday 3014!"
Writer: Steve Gerber
Penciler: Sal Buscema
Inker: Frank Giacoia
Colorist: Petra Goldberg
Letterer: Charlotte Jetter
Editor: Roy Thomas
Editor-in-Chief: Len Wein

The story begins with the ever-lovin', blue-eyed idol of millions at the Central Park Zoo, being as cheerful as ever, accompanied by a friend.

“Mama always said there’d be days like this…”

In case you're wondering, the man Ben is with is Wundarr the Aquarian. First appearing in Adventure into Fear #17 (October 1973), Wundarr was originally created as a Superman pastiche. Instead of being adopted by Ma and Pa Kent pastiches, he ended up physically maturing inside his pod but would mentally remain a baby. He would go on to be a part of the Project Pegasus Saga. This story is set before Wundarr would end up in Project Pegasus.

At this time, Ben Grimm was basically a babysitter to Wundarr. The Aquarian is fond of the rocky powerhouse, referring to him as his "Uncle Benjy". Awwww.

Ben goes to get Wundarr some cotton candy. However, Wundarr unintentionally causes a bit of havoc.

The animals are rising up!

Remember, Wundarr has the mind of a child...and the strength of Superman at that time. He had let the animals out of their cages, not realizing they were in them for a reason. Ben is left having to deal with the rampaging animals. However, he soon will get some backup.

"I have to take off my mask to enter a hospital! Weird."

Yup, Mr. Steve Rogers himself, the original Captain America. Steve sees people fleeing from the zoo, but Ben has the rampaging animals taken care of.

However, Steve spots some looters taking advantage of the chaos to get some free food from the concession stands. Mmmm...free food...

Right, sorry. Cap easily takes care of the looters. He beats up Nazis as a morning workout, a bunch of looters is nothing to him. Let me ask you a question. What is better than two superheroes? Three, that's what! Another hero is on the scene, one Nita Prentiss, aka Namorita.

"Oh Neptune, he got knocked stupid again."

She had met Wundarr in Marvel Two-in-One #2. And speaking of the future Aquarian, Ben Grimm is pretty angry at him. His anger is understandable, as he could have unintentionally gotten someone killed. Nita speaks up in his defense, pointing out that he's very child-like, and means no harm. She also reveals that she's been attending college on Long Island, and she can take Wundarr in. Ben is all too happy to let her. Cap wonders why Ben let Wundarr go, but Ben assures the Star-Spangled Avenger he'll explain the Aquarian's deal over coffee at the Baxter Building.

Cap, Ben, and Sharon arrive at the Baxter Building to see Reed Richards and Medusa tinkering with Doctor Doom's time machine, which the Four have had in their possession since the events of Fantastic Four #5 (July 1962). And it's very nice to see Medusa. Remember when Marvel actually remembered the Inhumans existed?

As Cap and Sharon shoot the breeze with the scientist and the Inhuman queen, Ben looks over the old time machine, and accidentally turns it on. The group of heroes enjoys a rare bit of good old rest and relaxation. However, this moment of peace is fleeting, as a scream is heard from the lab. The heroes run in and discover a strange woman on Doom's old time platform.

"Oh. This is not Alburquerque."

The woman freaks out, screaming she has done nothing wrong, and wants to know why she's here. Okay, she did forget to return a library book on time, but that is hardly a federal case. She expresses disbelief that she's in the presence of Captain America or the Fantastic Four...as they've been dead for a thousand years.

This whole thing gets the woman so flustered, she just faints.

The group are able to get her to a couch. When she wakes up, she's better able to explain her situation.

Ben points out that in her state, she mumbled something about "baboons". However, the woman corrects him. Not "baboon", but Badoon. She is named Tarin, and she comes from the future year of 3014. She explains that in the year 3007, the Brotherhood of Badoon, a species of reptilian aliens conquered the Earth and the majority of its interstellar colonies. Their invasion slaughtered much of humanity, but Earth's heroes were still remembered. The Guardians of the Galaxy named their starship after Captain America, for example.

Hearing this, Captain America wants to travel to 3014 and kick some Badoon head in. After all, the Badoon are tyrants, and if there's one thing that gets Steve Rogers in a punching mood, it's tyrants. The Thing agrees to come along. Reed and Medusa stay behind to operate the time machine. Sharon Carter is coming along as well. After all, she's a trained SHIELD agent. And with that, we got a party. Let's get this campaign started!

Ben, Steve, Sharon and Tarin travel to Tarin's home place and time: The New York City of 3014. Ben notices that the city seems deserted. Tarin explains that the Badoon have a strict curfew. All humans must be indoors before nightfall. If not, they face the Zom Patrols. And one just happens to show up.

"Braaaaaaains..."

Our heroes fight the Zoms. They're forced to go all out as the Zoms feel no pain, being humans turned into living automatons created by the Badoon.

And to make things worse, the Zoms got some backup. Big backup.

"GIVE MONSTER HUG."

Thanks to the monster, the tide of battle is turned. The Zoms manage to overcome the heroes, and they carry them off to an unknown destination. Unnoticed by the Zoms or the monster, Tarin has escaped. The story ends with her vowing to make the Badoon pay for what they have done today.

I enjoyed this comic. I really did. It was a fun action-packed ride. I do wish we got to see Ben and Cap interact more. After all, that's the point of these team-up tales, seeing characters that normally don't get to interact with each other do so. But I was happy with what we got here. I liked the cameos by Reed and Medusa. A nice reminder that the Marvel Universe is supposed to be a shared universe, the characters' stories being interconnected.

If you want to read this for yourself, I recommend tracking down the 2013 trade paperback Guardians of the Galaxy: Tomorrow's Avengers Vol. 1. It can also be found in the 2018 trade paperback Marvel Two-in-One Epic Collection Vol. 1: Cry Monster. Thanks for reading this blog entry!
