Minecraft Mega Man X DLC Trailer, My Thoughts

In 2011, the crafting game known as Minecraft was released. Minecraft would go on to be a critically-acclaimed game, as well as the highest-selling game of all time, with nearly 200 million copies, ported to numerous consoles and computers. The game has also been used for various crossovers with other franchises. And now, the 1993 SNES classic Mega Man X is getting the Minecraft treatment. Let's look at the trailer!

I admit, I am surprised to see this crossover. I actually thought if they crossed over, it would be the original version of Mega Man, not the X incarnation. This isn't a complaint, this is just a surprise.

Heh heh, Big Minecraft SNES.

Say what you will about Mega Man X, you can't deny it has a nice soundtrack.

I love that they incorporated the level select screen into a monitor in what looks like a futuristic control center.

I get the impression from this trailer that you play can play through Mega Man X in Minecraft form.

🎵 Stompin' around in my mech suit, yeah yeah yeah... 🎵

Hey, playing with friends? This would be a fun way to get through some tougher parts of the game. I mean, I've played some of Mega Man X, and I think it's a hard game...

Upgrading gear, huh? I wonder. I know in the original MMX, you can get armor pieces that give you different abilities. I wonder if this will go beyond that. Making your Special Weapons more energy efficient, allowing you to become more resistant to enemy blows, that type of thing. Make Mega Man X a full-on action RPG.

I wonder if in this lab complex, you can practice fighting the Mavericks so you can develop strategies for facing the real things. Would be fun.

Well, this looks really cool! I think I will definitely give this a shot. Thanks for reading this blog entry! If you liked it, show it off! Take care of yourselves and each other! Stay safe, stay healthy, stay home, wash your hands often, wear a mask, and get your vaccine/booster! See you next time!

Capcom Fighting Collection Announcement Trailer, My Thoughts

If there's one thing that Capcom is known for besides Mega Man, it's their fighting games. Capcom is one of those companies that is practically synonymous with the genre, mainly thanks to the Street Fighter series, the sixth game recently announced as in the works. They've released many a fighting game over the years, and some of them will be compiled in a collection for the Nintendo Switch. Let's look at the trailer!

Street Fighter is 35 years old? Oh God, I feel old.

I like Capcom's collections. The Beat 'Em Up Bundle is great. Get it.

Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors - Also known as Vampire: The Night Warriors. The first game in the Darkstalkers series, it was developed and released to arcades by Capcom in 1994. The game was a big hit in arcades, being the fourth highest-grossing arcade game in Japan. The first console port was for the original PlayStation in 1996. In this game, you fight as ten monster-themed characters to stop an evil fire alien called Pyron from devouring Earth. This game introduced beloved characters like the catgirl Felicia and the succubus Morrigan.

Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge - The second game in the Darkstalkers series. It would be developed and released by Capcom to arcades in 1995. Like its predecessor, it was a big hit in the arcades. Its first console port was to the Sega Saturn in 1996. Even though this game is considered a sequel, its story is basically an enhanced version of the first game's with endings and storylines for the new characters: Donovan Baine and the jiang-shi Hsien-Ko.

Vampire Savior - Aka Darkstalkers 3. The third game in the Darkstalkers series, it was released to arcades in 1997. It's first console ports were to the Sega Saturn and PlayStation in 1998. In this game, the Darkstalkers try to stop the evil demon Jedah Dohma from using his new world called the Majigen from supplanting the demon world of Makai. The game would remove previous characters Pyron, Huitzil, and Donovan. It would also introduce four new characters to the series: the Red Riding Hood-inspired Darkhunter B.B. Hood, the bee-like Q-Bee, the succubus Lilith, and Jedah himself.

Vampire Hunter 2: Darkstalkers' Revenge - This is basically an updated version of Vampire Savior. It tweaks some characters and changes up the lineup a bit.

Vampire Savior 2 - Another version of Vampire Savior.

Cyberbots: Full Metal Madness - A spinoff of the beat-em-up Armored Warriors, this game was developed and released by Capcom to arcades in 1995. The cabinet had limited distribution outside of Japan. It was ported to the Sega Saturn and PlayStation in 1997. However, those ports were not released outside of Japan...well, except for an untranslated release on the PlayStation Network.

Red Earth - This fantasy-themed fighting game was released to arcades in 1996. This Switch collection is this game's first port to a console as well as its first official release outside of Japan. Set in an alternate 14th century Earth (A post-apocalyptic 1999 in the original Japanese), a quartet of heroes must ride to defend Earth from a country of monsters. This game incorporated a Quest Mode, allowing the characters to be played through their storylines. These storylines had RPG elements to them, allowing the character to grow stronger and pick up new moves.

Hyper Street Fighter II - The Anniversary Edition - Released to arcades and the PlayStation 2 in 2003 in Japan, 2004 in North America. This was a version of the iconic Street Fighter II made to celebrate the game's 15th Anniversary. This version of the game allowed players to fight as any version of the roster from the previous versions: the original, Champion Edition, Hyper Fighting, Super, and Super Turbo.

Super Gem Fighter: Mini Mix - Released to arcades in Japan and North America in 1997. Ported to the PlayStation internationally in 1998, and to the Sega Saturn in Japan only in 1998. This game uses characters from Street Fighter II, Red Earth, and Darkstalkers in a super deformed style. One notable mechanic is the ability to collect gems to power up fighters.

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo - Released to arcades in 1996, and ported to numerous consoles, this game is a puzzle game that also is a crossover with Darkstalkers.

I love behind the scenes stuff like concept art. It's neat we'll get that here. And a BGM player?! Sweet! Game music is fun to listen to!

Makes sense a collection like this would have online capability. Play with your friends no matter where they are!

I have to admit, this is quite an interesting collection...but I do admit, I do find it odd that there are multiple versions of Vampire Savior 2 here. I get that they're tweaked, but it seems like filler to me. I'd love to give Red Earth and Cyberbots a try, though.

Thanks for reading this blog entry! If you liked it, show it off! Take care of yourselves and each other! Stay safe, stay healthy, stay home, wash your hands often, wear a mask, and get vaccinated! See you next time!

Mega Man 11 Launch Trailer, My Thoughts

Back in September, I gave my thoughts on the Mega Man 11 Demo Launch trailer. I remember praising the demo, but found the Double Gear system a bit unwieldy. I did enjoy the demo, though. And it did get me excited to get the game itself. Well, the game itself has finally made its debut! It's out for PC, Xbox One, PS4, and the Nintendo Switch. Let's take a look!

Loved that transition with the 8-bit Mega Man becoming the 2.5D-style one for this game. I personally would've somehow made him transition to his looks from Mega Man 7 for the SNES and Mega Man 8 for the PlayStation. Show that the Blue Bomber's done a lot of changing over the years as the original series went on.

I love the look of this game. I really do.

Oh, did Dr. Wily steal Dr. Light's creations again? Dude, you managed to build your own blasted Robot Masters for several games! Why're you taking Light's again? You strapped for cash or something, so you can't build your own batch?

Heh heh, rogue steam shovel.

Fight bosses in any order and steal their weapons? That's pretty much the same as the previous Mega Man games.

I have to admit, I do like that Mega Man's armor does change appearance when he activates certain boss weapons. Taking full advantage of the power of the latest consoles. Certainly is neater than Mega Man just changing colors.

Slowing time is an awesome feature. I can see this helping relieve a lot of the frustrations that come with playing this game. Mega Man games tend to be hard. Very hard.

ADJUSTABLE DIFFICULTY! THANK YOU CAPCOM!

Upgrading and customizing Mega Man, huh? Just like Mega Man 8!

I wonder if you get something cool for doing the bonus challenges. I think battling previous Robot Masters and getting their weapons would be awesome. And maybe playing as Proto Man.

I've got to admit, I enjoyed what I played in the demo, and I recommend you give it a try, too. If oyu like Mega Man, you will love this game.

Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle Launch Trailer, My Thoughts

In their glory years, Capcom was known for being one of the companies that ruled arcades. Yes, Street Fighter II helped make it into a fighting game powerhouse, but it also put out its fair share of fondly-remembered beat 'em ups. And now some of those games from the glory days are here in one collection to be enjoyed on the go with the Nintendo Switch! Let's take a look!

I love the effort they did in making this live-action part look like it was filmed in the late 80s-early 90s.

CAPTAIN COMMANDO. The costume is amazing. Kudos to the designers. And to the actor, too.

Yeah, let's take a bunch of kids from the early 90s to the present. I can see nothing going wrong.

WHOAAAAAA, HEADTRIP.

I've played the SNES version of Final Fight. I'd love to play the original arcade version.

I have also been wanting to play Knights of the Round and Captain Commando since I first saw a video on them by Cygnus Destroyer.

Armored Warriors was one of these beat 'em ups that never came to a home console back when it was first released in 1994. Battle Circuit is also making its home console debut here. As well as its Western debut. Battle Circuit was only released in Japan and Europe in 1997.

Again, kudos to the actor they got for Captain Commando.

Considering these games emphasize multiple people playing them together, makes sense they'd have online multiplayer.

Heh heh, the early 90s kids brought to the present have no idea what the Internet is.

Well, that was a rather dark, unsuspected twist. Nice work, Captain Commando.

Dark turn aside, this trailer was pretty awesome. I never got to play these games as a kid, so I can't wait to give them a try here!

Mega Man 11 Demo Launch Trailer, My Thoughts

Over the past 30 years, Mega Man has saved the world about ten times, trashing ten sets of Robot Masters. But Doctor Wily still is kicking, so he's going to keep on trying until he conquers the world. He's got a set of brand new Robot Masters to rule the world with, so Mega Man must strap back on his helmet and Mega Buster, and smash those ones up with their own weapons again. This is Mega Man 11, the latest game in the classic Mega Man series. Capcom has released a demo for the game, and here's the launch trailer for it!

I have downloaded and played the demo, and I found it really fun. I like that this game has an actual difficulty setting.

Like that remix.

It is kind of funny hearing Robot Master intros with fully voiced taunts, but I kind of like it. We got the tech to do it now, so let's use it. Also, it allows the Robot Masters to have some personality.

I'm assuming Bounce Man's level is circus-themed.

Giant Metal Frog. I'd rather deal with that thing than the Yellow Devil.

Bounce Man is going to be a real pain, isn't he?

I like Impact Man. Reminds me of Spark Man from Mega Man 3. And his construction site-themed level looks cool. I wonder what's being built?  I love that he's a transformer, too. Shame that he doesn't turn into a construction vehicle or something. I mean, Turbo Man became a car.

I wonder if Torch Man is an upgraded Fire Man? And he shooting flaming fists. Awesome.

Quite a few of these Robot Masters remind me of past ones. I wonder if that's because there's been so many of them? You know, that would be neat to see some classic Robot Masters come back in this style. Maybe as DLC?

I like the idea of the Double Gear System. I did find it a bit unwieldy to use in the demo. Maybe I just have to get used to it.

I also do like the new modes. I may not use them much myself, but I'm sure speedrunners and high score fans would love them.

As I said earlier, I have played the demo, and I love it. I love the look, the music, the gameplay. I highly recommend it.

Street Fighter V Sagat Gameplay Trailer, My Thoughts

Yesterday, I did a Tekken trailer, and today, I'm doing a Street Fighter trailer. Funny how life works out, huh? Anyway, a new character is coming to Street Fighter V...well, an old character, but with a new look. The King of Muay Thai himself, Sagat, is coming to SFV! Let's look at his trailer!

Sagat likes tigers. Did you know that there is a species of tiger native to Sagat's home country of Thailand? Yup, the Indochinese Tiger. You know, it's a shame he never appeared in a Marvel vs. Capcom game. I think he'd like Tigra.

Aww, look at the ferocious jungle cat. He's so cute.

Sagat is not one for quipping. And where did he get that poncho?

I see Sagat is still totally not mad about Ryu scarring his chest. In Street Fighter lore, Sagat's big chest scar was caused by Ryu.

I have to admit, I love the music in the background.

Hey, he's got his classic Street Fighter II look, too! Awesome!

Tiger Charge! Tiger Charge! You all know Sagat likes to call all his attacks "Tiger _".He likes tigers.

Sagat is the King of Muay Thai. You come at the King, you best not miss. His having one eye will not help you.

Hey, he comes with a new stage, too. That's nice. King's Court is beautiful. I love the giant Buddha statue. He's just chilling while people are beating and blasting the tar out of each other in front of him.

I like the new costumes. And I'll have to look at the trailer for G at some point. He's a new character, so I am curious about him.

It's great to see Sagat make his comeback. I am curious as to what he was up to during the events of this game, and hopefully, his appearance will explain that.

Mega Man X Legacy Collection Launch Trailer, My Thoughts

Back in April, I gave my thoughts on the Mega Man X Legacy Collection coming to Nintendo Switch. My own experience with the X series is rather limited. I do remember playing the first X game and enjoying it despite being very hard. But now, the collection is out! So, let's take a look at the launch trailer!

It may not be 2017 anymore, but we're still celebrating Mega Man hitting the big 3-0, baby!

Mega Man X and Zero tend to be the main two protagonists of the series. In fact, Zero was intended to be the main character of this series. But the design was far too different from the classic version of Mega Man, so he was made to be the secondary protagonist. I think that was a smart move. It would have been too shocking to see Zero as the main character of this game series that was supposed to be a future version of Mega Man's world.

Axl first appeared in Mega Man X7, which came out in 2003 for Japan and the US, 2004 in Europe. It got...mixed reviews. The fact that X had to be unlocked to play as him and the issues with the 2D and 3D playing styles meshing had something to do with it.

Sigma is the big bad. And he had been pretty much the major if not only big bad of the X series. He's this series' Dr. Wily...if Dr. Wily was a robot corrupted by a virus that made you evil.

Vile is basically Sigma's flunky. He got to appear in that 1990s Ruby-Spears Mega Man cartoon alongside Mega Man X boss Spark Mandrill.

The X-Hunters appeared in Mega Man X2. They were the main villains of that game.

Dr. Doppler is from Mega Man X3. He was a robot that supposedly found a cure for robots going wild, or "Maverick". He was possessed by a viral Sigma.

Iris went crazy and tried to kill Zero after her brother Colonel, who led an army of Maverick Hunters, tried to create a nation of robots. It was supposed to be tragic, as she and Zero had feelings for each other, but only became a meme. "WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOOOOOORRRRRR?!"

Dynamo was a mercenary. That's pretty much it.

Gate tried to use a  virus to create his own utopia. Pretty much your standard "build a new world on the ashes of the old" villain.

Red was the leader of a group of vigilantes who lost it when fellow member Axl got fed up with his going too far and quit. Yeah. That's his motivation.

Lumine? I have no idea what her deal is. I really do not.

X Challenge mode seems like a fun way to challenge yourself. It's really funny seeing the early X games' Mavericks fighting alongside the later X games' ones, considering how the graphics advanced over the course of the series.

So this collection has X7 and X8 being given HD remasters? That's pretty neat.

Yeah, I'm going to have the most fun with Museum Mode. I love looking at concept art and listening to music.

I hope that the "Day of Sigma" film is fun to watch.

Oh, commercials! That's awesome! And Trailers! That is sweet!

I can imagine the X series got a surprising amount of collectibles.

Well, this sounds awesome! I love it when companies release game collections like this, and I have been wanting to play Mega Man X again, so I think I'll add this to my game collection.

Street Fighter V Falke Gameplay Trailer, My Thoughts

Well, Street Fighter V's Season 3 is still going! We have some veteran characters returning, but in this case, we got a brand-new lethal lady joining the ranks! Say hello to Falke!

Much like Cody, Falke uses a weapon: a quarterstaff. Actually, it's a buck-and-a-quarter-quarterstaff, but she's not going to tell anyone that. Points if you get the joke. It's also called "Harmony". I wonder why it got that name.

Based on her uniform, I think we can assume she may be connected to Shadoloo, the big evil criminal organization in the Street Fighter series. This game is set between III and IV (yeah, I know, from what I understand, the Street Fighter timeline is a bit of a mess), so I believe at that point, Shadaloo had collapsed. She and another character, Ed, were created to be clone bodies for the series' big bad, M. Bison, but they decided, "Screw that, we're doing our own thing." So, she's a clone made for evil, but rebels. She and Laura Kinney would get along rather well.

I think it's pretty cool she can shoot energy from her staff like it's a rifle.

I wonder what "Staerken" means. Is it German? Falke is a German/Nordic name (It means "falcon", and she's called the Guardian Hawk), and the character is supposed to be German...

"Psycho Angriff" ...Angriff? What's that? Well, "Angriff" means attack in German. So, it's not some weird translation thing.

FORE!

Her Story Costume feels to me like it should be a reference to something. And her Battle Costume makes me think of Black Widow.

Well, Falke seems really cool. I like her attacks, and her design. If I get SFV, I'll give her a try.

Street Fighter V Cody Gameplay Trailer, My Thoughts

A new batch of characters has come to SFV! Well, in this case, an old veteran: Mr. Cody Travers, from the Final Fight series. He also was in Street Fighter IV, because the two games are set pretty much in the same universe. When we last saw him, Mr. Travers was rather bored with life, rotting in a jail cell thanks to a growing addiction to fighting. But now, he's turned his life around. He's done such a good job of it he's succeeded Mike Haggar as mayor of Metro City! I'm guessing Haggar is out being Mayor of the World now or something like that.

But despite his busy life, he always makes some time to throw down when he has to. Because sometimes in Metro City, the only way to keep the streets clean is to clean them yourself. Makes you wonder if Cody plans to actually institute a police force at some point. But, I am rambling. Here's his gameplay trailer!

Somebody's got a phone call. I bet Cody is really tired of that guy thinking his office is the pizza parlor.

Hey, it's Kenny Omega! Who is Kenny Omega? He's a pro wrestler. Very big in Japan, often rolls with a faction called the Bullet Club. The Bullet Club are essentially a ripoff of a certain 90s faction WCW hit it big with back in the day. At least, that's my impression of them. And on the phone? That's Xavier Woods, pro wrestler and gamer extraordinaire. He has his own YouTube channel which you can see here.

I just realized that this is a nod to the first Final Fight game's intro! Clever Capcom.

Considering Cody's character, his fighting style to me would be plain old brawling mixed with some pro wrestling as a nod to Haggar, and maybe even some martial arts moves as a nod to Guy. His best friends are a pro wrestling mayor and a Converse-wearing ninja, so he would pick up something from them.

...why is he wearing Haggar's pants? Do they get passed down from Mayor to Mayor? I hope they get washed at the very least, consider how much sweat and blood Haggar's bathed them in over the years.

Cody using his knife and a pipe are a great nod to Final Fight, which was a beat-em-up that let the player use weapons. And I love his using a pipe as a baseball bat. Trying to project that All-American image there, Mr. Travers?

I do like the funky music in the background.

Cool, you can play him wearing his original Final Fight outfit? Awesome!

Well, this was really cool. I got a PS4 now, so I think I'll give SFV a shot. I also want to get that Street Fighter Collection for Switch...

Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 Trailer, My Thoughts

When it comes to Mega Man, the original series is not the only one that's getting collected for the Switch. The Mega Man X series is coming to the Switch, too. This series, focusing on the adventures of the robot called X in the far future of the Mega Man universe, was a very popular little spin-off, spawning 11  games from 1994 to 2001 (In the US). And some of them are coming to the Switch! Let's take a look!

That Mega Man X title screen music is so catchy. I still play it in my head every so often. Yeah, I've only played the first Mega Man X. I remember getting frustrated over the difficulty.

The first collection has Mega Man X 1-4. I do like the music playing in this part. Is it from the first stage of Mega Man X? Before the stage select screen.

And the second is collecting 5-8. I wonder why it's not including Command Mission and the two Xtreme games. They're part of the series as well. And I heard X7 is not very good.

I don't really see the point of the hi-res filter mode.

I do like the Gallery and Music Player features, though. Those are neat.

We get a film focusing on Sigma's origins, huh? That's neat. And OLD COMMERCIALS, too?! AWESOME! I love that idea! I want to see those old commercials and trailers!

I also think we'll get a look at all the various official merch of the X series. Action figures, t-shirts and the like. I would not be surprised if there was quite a bit of it.

X-Challenge, huh? A new mode is always a nice addition. I do like that you can fight two Mavericks (The X series' Robot Master bosses) at once. I can imagine some of them would help make it easier.

If you ever played the first Mega Man X game and fought this guy, you'll get what I mean. If you do not get the joke, Spark Mandrill here was regarded as a rather easy boss to beat if you got the proper weapon to beat him (Shotgun Ice from Chill Penguin).

Well, I think this is pretty neat. I've never really played the X series, but I think it looks like it will be a great primer for those who want to get into it. It's not really complete, but it does have most of the games. I'll give it a looksee myself, if only so I can play Mega Man X on the go. I'll give the others a try, though.

Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 & 2 Switch Trailer, My Thoughts

The Mega Man series, back in the day (and still is), one of Capcom's most beloved series of games. The titular robotic Blue Bomber was practically Capcom's mascot. The original NES series would be regarded as one of the best, and most difficult games, on the system that saved the video game industry. And the games are coming to the Switch in special packs! Let's look at the trailer!

I love the bit with the 8-bit and 16-bit incarnations of Mega Man running towards each other under the Capcom logo. It's like they're running up to each other, asking if they're ready to kick Wily butt, then teleport into action.

I know they released the first Mega Man Legacy Collection for the 3DS in the past. The trailer says there will be new features. I do hope that means there will be more new features than the 3DS version. Personally, I'd think it would have been really cool to see the original six get enhanced remakes. Improved graphics (Because who would NOT want to play these games with 16-bit-style graphics), maybe the addition of an "easy mode", that kind of thing.

I like the rewind feature, though. I imagine that would really reduce the frustration level. I'm sure some retrogamers will grumble about it, but for me, I think it's a welcome feature for people who want to try the series, but is intimidated by the difficulty, like me. I'm hoping that's not the only new feature.

Legacy 2 collects Mega Man 7-10. Basically, Mega Man 7 originally for the SNES, and Mega Man 8 originally for the PlayStation, and the retro NES-styled 9 and 10. This will be the first time Legacy Collection 2 will be released on a platform that can be played on the go, as it was originally for PS4, Xbox One, and the PC. That's really cool. I'm happy they can be played on the go. Who doesn't love being able to play games on the go?

I think the Challenge Mode is really neat. Will provide a fun extra for veteran Mega Man players.

The Sound Mode is another cool feature. I know the Mega Man series' music is popular, so being able to kick back with it would be fun.

The Museum Mode is the one that really fascinates me. I love that this feature will give behind-the-scenes look on the history and the development of these games. I love that kind of stuff, and it gives me a great appreciation of the people who worked hard to make these games.

Well, this seems pretty darn cool. I hope Switch owners who've never played the Mega Man games give it a try and have some fun.

Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Announcement, My Thoughts

Mega Man is not the only Capcom franchise celebrating a big anniversary this year. Alongside the Blue Bomber, the World Warriors will be celebrating the big 3-0. And for that celebration, they are releasing a game collection! Let's check out the trailer!

The trailer begins with footage of people playing Street Fighter II in arcades, and a voice-over talking about how revolutionary the game was. And indeed, it was. Street Fighter II was the game that revolutionized the fighting genre, and gave rise to other fighting games like King of Fighters, Fatal Fury, and Art of Fighting.

I love that metal remix of Ryu's theme.

The list of games in this collection is not surprising: The very first Street Fighter, the various versions of II and III, and the three Alpha games. It is kind of sad that the three Street Fighter EX games aren't included here, but I imagine that was because they were co-developed by Capcom and another game company called Arika, and it led to some kind of rights issues. Speaking of EX, I have heard a fourth is in development...

I think the collection also has some neat features. My favorite one is the sprite viewer. Sprite art has always fascinated me, so this feature is a great way to see the artistic efforts they put in into rendering the characters and their attacks. I also like the music viewer. Hopefully, it can be a way to listen to some tunes on your console of choice. I also like the timeline feature, as it is a brilliant way to educate gamers about the history of the series. And concept art is always great.

Some of the games do have online play. It's a shame not all of them do, but I can imagine the games that got online play were the ones that were considered the most popular in sales, so it does make some sort of sense.

This is a fantastic gift for gamers. This could allow gamers who are new to the SF franchise to learn about the history of the series that created a fighting game boom, and I'm sure veterans would appreciate having all these games in one place.

And speaking of gaming compilations...I want Super Mario All-Stars brought to the Switch. Don't just slap it in a cartridge like they did with the Wii 25th Anniversary port. Bring in a ton of special features with it.

Mega Man 30th Anniversary Trailer, My Thoughts!

Mega Man. The Blue Bomber. This year, he's turning the big 3-0. Yup, his first game came to the NES (The Famicom in Japan) in December 1987. Over the next three years, Mega Man would become one of Capcom's most beloved franchises. It would spawn sequels, a cartoon series by Ruby-Spears, and even a comic series from Archie, which I reviewed the first issue of here. It was a really good series, I miss it so much. Maybe I should do a retrospective on it or something. Anyway, for my first blog entry back from Texas (I'm an uncle! Yay!), Capcom's got something very special for the occasion. Let's take a look.

As the trailer says, we're taking a look at Mega Man through the ages. I really love the music, and I also thought the presentation was awesome, using NES sprites to take Mega Man on his journey. I think some of the art we see is from the Famicom releases, as the NES versions didn't have that artwork on them.

I do have to admit, I haven't played much of the Mega Man series, but I always did like the concept of Mega Man getting the weapons of the bosses he beats. I'm surprised that hasn't been seen in more games. I'd love to see an RPG's take on the concept.

The trailer seems to focus on the main Mega Man series. It does include dates of the various spin-offs like the X series, the Legends series, and the Battle Network series, but it does definitely focus on the main series. That makes sense. One could argue those versions of Mega Man are technically different characters.

Another thing I love about this trailer is showing how Mega Man has evolved over time, going from the 8-bit NES, 16-bit SNES, to today. I's quite fascinating to see. And it's also a bit of a reminder of how old I am, ha ha.

Mega Man reaches Wily, and makes him surrender by...absorbing the Mega Man 30th Anniversary logo. Huh. Despite this...absolute lack of doing anything by the Blue Bomber, Wily escapes. Mega transports into a hidden room, where a special surprise is waiting...

YesMega Man 11 is coming next year! And I have to admit, I like the look of the game. It's been updated with a new look: 3D sprites, but with the classic platforming jump-and-shoot action. I like it. It also appears Rush will play a support role in the game. Maybe we'll get some new forms for him. I think we also got a look at one of the Robot Master weapons Mega Man will get in the game. I can imagine that weapon being rather...wasteful in some ways.

I have to admit, this was a nice surprise. This game is coming to the Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the PC next year, so there are plenty of ways to play it. Looks like ANOTHER game to add to my future Switch library...

Marvel vs. Capcom Story Trailer, My Thoughts

Well, a little treat has come today! It's been a while since we heard anything about Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, the latest in the classic Marvel vs. Capcom series. And the game is going to have a campaign mode! Here's the trailer for it!

The trailer begins with Ultron and Sigma facing off. Ultron states that all organic life must be exterminated. Based on the next combined narration, I think we can guess the plot here: Ultron and Sigma somehow get the Infinity Gems, which causes them to merge into a new form that actually looks pretty cool. I think they intend to use the gems to create a new universe.

We next then see what looks like Asgard, with the combined Ultron/Sigma being sitting on Odin's throne, the Asgardians under his control. They look like they're partially roboticized. I'm guessing Sigma got the tech from Dr. Robotnik/Eggman somehow.

We then see some heroes fighting Ultron drones. There's Strider, the Hulk, Chris Redfield, Thor, Captain America, Mega Man X, the Carol Danvers Captain Marvel, Chun-Li with the kicks, Hawkeye shooting arrows...the bit with Hawkeye shooting arrows at Ultron Sigma has to be a nod to the first Avengers movie, the bit with Hawkeye firing an arrow at Loki during the final battle.

It's neat to see some characters returning from the last game, but I have to admit, I was kind of hoping to see more new characters in this scene. Yeah, Captain Marvel and Mega Man X are new, but I was hoping to see a couple more. I do hope the roster is massive, though. Marvel and Capcom got big character libraries, dig deep, guys! Go big!

There's a nice scene with Rocket and Mega Man X, that gave me a chuckle. I noticed he has his MCU appearance. That actually makes a lot of sense. That's the look the mainstream will be familiar with thanks to the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Evidently there's a Deluxe Edition that can be pre-ordered. Comes with six all-new DLC characters, probably three Marvel and three Capcom, and six premium costumes. Maybe they're more...old-school outfits? It says Sigma is featured. Is he one of the six DLC characters, or is he separate? The Deluxe Edition comes with some NICE-looking statues, too.

This game looks like it'll be a LOT of fun! I hope they bring it to the Switch!
