The Messenger Launch Trailer, My Thoughts

In a world besieged by demons, one lone ninja must bring a very important item to someone who could save the world from them. This ninja must brave all sorts of terrors and traps to get this item to the hero. For this ninja is no hero. He is merely...The Messenger.

Developed by Quebec, Canada-based gaming studio Sabotage and published by Devolver Digital, The Messenger is a retro-styled action-platformer game that has come to Microsoft Windows and the Nintendo Switch. And here's the launch trailer for it!

Riding in on a phoenix. That is an AWESOME way to make an entrance.

Yeesh, that is one ugly demon thing.

Yeah, this is basically a spiritual relative to the Ninja Gaiden trilogy for the original NES.

Kids, this is why you rake the leaves when your parents tell you to. You get leaf monsters rampaging all over the place.

That poor Messenger saw much more of that green demon than necessary. He'd better get a bonus for this job, as he's going to need some therapy money.

I love the detail of the music sounding muted when the Messenger is underwater. It's the little touches like that I always appreciate.

And he gets saddled with a little red devil thing. Sounds less annoying than Navi in Ocarina of Time already.

Getting crushed by a pair of giant blue hands. That will leave a mark.

Hey, awesome! It can go to a 16-bit style?! And the Messenger gets to cosplay as Raiden from Mortal Kombat?! That is sweet! I honestly wish more games were made in the 16-bit style. Maybe the sequel to Shovel Knight can be done in that style. I love the 16-bit style.

The game goes back and forth between the styles, huh? That's neat. The game does look great in either the 8-bit or 16-bit style, although to be honest...as someone who grew up in the era of Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, I do prefer the 16-bit style. As I said earlier, more indie studios should do that style.

Well, this game looks like it will be a ton of fun. I never have played Ninja Gaiden, and honestly...I get very nervous about trying that old game because I heard it was VERY difficult. But I'll give this one a shot.
