Disgaea 1 Complete Launch Trailer, My Thoughts

In 2012, Japanese game developer Nippon Ichi Software developed and published Disgaea: Hour of Darkness for the PlayStation 2. A tactical role-playing game, it told the tale of Laharl, a demon who sought to become the strongest demon in the underworld and take up his deceased father's throne.

The game would be praised, and win several awards. It was hailed for its gameplay and quirky humor, but was criticized for its graphics, which felt out-of-date. The Disgaea franchise would go on to get several sequels, mainly for the PlayStation consoles. The fifth game in the series, A Brighter Darkness, would go on the Nintendo DS, though. It also got spinoff games and was even adapted into an anime.

2018 celebrates the 15th anniversary of Disgaea's release. As such, the game is getting remastered and released to the Nintendo Switch. Let's take a look at the launch trailer!

The 15th Anniversary logo contains a Prinny. Prinnys are penguin-esque beings that have become mascots of the series. In the Disgaea world, when a human who has led a "worthless" life or committed a mortal sin dies...their soul gets put in one of these things. They can work towards reincarnation, though. Imagine spending eternity trapped in a demonic penguin. Sheesh.

I love that this trailer is basically saying, "Stand back, ya newfangled tactical RPGs! Let this old vet show you punks how it's done!"

Considering the subject matter of this game, 'raising hell' can be taken quite literally.

Those attacks will hurt.

Ooh, creating your own party. Hopefully, the customization will be deep and allow for lots of replayability.

Heh, imagine getting beaten by exploding rabbits dropped from above.

Oh cool, you can get help from the Power Rangers! Nah, that's from the game Chroma Squad. I'd like to see that game go to the Switch.

I have no idea who these other unlockable characters are.

I wonder if this version will get more endings.

I have to admit, this is the first I ever really heard of this series. Admittedly, I' ve never really been into the whole tactical RPG thing. But if you are a fan of the series, you may like this port. You can also play it on the go, so that's pretty cool.
