Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey Launch Trailer, My Thoughts

In 2009, Japanese video game developer created, and Nintendo published, the third game in the Mario + Luigi RPG series: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. The game told the tale of the Mario Bros. being trapped inside the body of their nemesis Bowser. They have to use this state to help Bowser combat the mutual threat of Fawful, who conquered the Mushroom Kingdom.

Originally released for the Nintendo DS, the game sold over four million copies worldwide. It's actually the best-selling Mario Bros. RPG game of all time. It's also one of the highest-related Mario RPGs, with much of the praise going to the game's comedic storyline, gameplay, and Bowser getting to be the main character.

Back in January, Nintendo released a remake for the 3DS (yes, they're still supporting it for now) called Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey. The remake promises improved graphics, and a side-game called Bowser Jr.'s Journey, a side-story focusing on the titular character. Let's take a look at the launch trailer!

That...is disturbing...and hilarious. Roll the Toad like a barrel...

Heh heh, Blorbs. That's a funny name for a plague.

You'd think at some point, Bowser would notice the Mario Bros. are missing.

Wait, did Bowser swallow that box?

I can imagine the Mario Bros. having to evade antibodies all the time.

Yeah, if the Mario Bros. aren't careful, they're going to end up accidentally killing Bowser.

This is the key gameplay gimmick. You have to use Bowser and the Mario Bros. together to get ahead in the game.

Manipulating Bowser's body like that makes for some very humorous...and horrific possibilities.

Whoa. That is one big carrot. I can imagine Bugs Bunny is drooling.

And if Bowser isn't careful, he'll drown the Mario Bros.

Fighting time! Hit the gym, Goomba!

Hey, kind of like Super Mario RPG!

What did that castle ever do to you, Bowser?!

Yes, this is the side story! Bowser Jr. is going to have his own adventure!

Bowser really needs to hug his kid on occasion.

I like the idea of Bowser Jr. leading little armies into combat. It does make sense as he's the smallest and youngest of the Koopalings. It also allows it to stand out from the main game a bit.

Heh, this strengths and weaknesses thing is like Pokémon, but on a smaller scale.

I wonder if you can upgrade your troops.

Need a proton pack? Bowser Jr. IS a proton pack!

Well, this seems like a rather cute game. I have played the original Super Mario RPG before, but that's really about it for Mario RPGs. I do want to give this a try, though. I think it is kind of neat the 3DS is still getting some love in 2019. This game sounds right up my alley.
