My Spy Trailer, My Thoughts

Action films can combine themselves with various other genres. One of the regular partners in such a combination of genres is comedy. The action-comedy rose up in the 1980s, when actors known for comedy started appearing in action movies. One famous film from the era, for example, is Beverly Hills Cop. A part of this subgenre is the buddy cop movie, like Lethal Weapon or 48 Hours.

You may be familiar with the buddy cop movie, but the buddy spy movie? Yup, we're going to have some fun with spies. The spy genre and comedy also have a long relationship, whether it was the humor of the Roger Moore-era James Bond films, or the straight-up parody like Spy Hard.

This new upcoming film is such a melding of genres. What happens when a tough-as-nails CIA agent (Dave Bautista) is forced to join forces with a precocious little girl (Chloe Coleman)? Well, only one way to find out! Let's look at the trailer for the Peter Segal-directed film by STXfilms, MWM Studios, and Callahan Filmworks: My Spy!

Yeah, Dave tends to Batista Bomb people. That's why he's no good with them.

Boom!

Hi, JJ!

To be fair, some of those bad guys did end up blowing each other up. That did not help.

Sophie is cute.

Kids can be cruel.

Kids these days tend to be rather savvy.

Nooooo, JJ. We do not do that. You're supposed to be the good guy here. Heh heh heh.

Peter Segal directed Get Smart? I loved that movie!

I like this. Sophie helps JJ be less socially awkward, and JJ ups her self-confidence with spy training. I can dig this.

Cool guys don't look at explosions...

Aren't lie detectors rather unreliable?

Uh oh... RUN, KIDS! RUUUUUN!

Don't look at the explosion, Sophie. It's bad for your eyes.

SAVE THE FISH! SAVE THE FISH!

That, I believe, is what is called...a "Dad Dance".

Well, I had to admit...I had some laughs watching this trailer. I want to see this movie. It sounds like a ton of fun. The whole "tough cop teams up with kid" thing has been done before, but so has everything else. All that matters is that this is entertaining, and it looks like it will be exactly that.
